Yep it doesn't surprise me that it doesn't reach Victoria, as plans have always called for a future CHNM-DT repeater there. Certainly up your way west-northwest of Nanaimo would usually have a better shot at Mt. Seymour reception if the beam pattern is suitable, but I speculate that it might never be.

I think OMNI BC's beam pattern is all about their core programming audience. While there are of course people of ethnic origin on Vancouver Island there is not a large enough demographic target group in areas outside of the Lower Mainland and the City of Victoria.

Its also possible someone with an outdoor setup would have better luck
as Im still using an indoor antenna, outside on my deck.
Will keep checking from time to time to see if there is any improvement.

Im just using OTA as a backup for short periods when the
cable goes out in the winter storms..Even if I dont get CHNM
Im happy with the other 3 DT channels that I receive plus
the analogs.

42.1...nice addition. Are there any updates on CKVU10dt? Also, has CHEK6 analog reduced their signal, my reception has taken a nose dive.

Very glad I checked this thread today... went over to my Samsung HDTV, punched in 20, and boom it sent me to 42.1. However the programming at this time of day is not HD so I can't see the results until prime time perhaps.

Anyone else having problems getting CTV-HD recently? I lost it Yesterday evening and haven't seen any signal since. On the plus side I get CHNM-Dt now so it's likely atmospheric.

Ya I am fogged in here and the signal is just below locking and jumps up to lock then back below again certainly weather for me too. All the rest are fine for me.

CTV's a bit better this evening - at least I can see a signal still not enough for a clean picture though.

CIVT-DT has been solid and stable for me, so I would assume it was the fog and frost in the air the last few days causing the problems in deep fringe areas.

CKVU's application to the CRTC will have the information on their intentions in it, but there's no guaranteeing that it will be approved without changes. As things stand right now, the Industry Canada database (http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/) still shows their pre-application data.
Say, does anyone have an update regarding the CKVU application? The hearing was scheduled for Dec 14, so I imagine something must have happened.

I just wrote their contact, but she is away until January 4, 2010.

Anyone?

I just heard back this morning from the Rogers contact this morning. No decision from the CRTC yet, but they expect one to be forthcoming later this month. I noticed on the Canucks schedule that one game in a few months will be on CKVU so here is hoping things fall into place in time for them to be broadcasting in HD by the time that game happens. :)

A follow up to Posts #1013 & 1016: the Industry Canada database is showing CKVU-DT (CITY TV Vancouver) as being "RE" (referred to the CRTC for license consideration). This means that their application is technically acceptable to IC so is now ready for license application review, which we assume was heard in the December 14 hearings.

Generally RE is not a lengthy process, so here's hoping CKVU gets changed to "AU" (authorized) and then "OP" (operational) really soon!
BC Vancouver AL 47 CKVU-DT 484512 1232930 300.0 107000 668.00
BC Vancouver RE 47 CKVU-DT INDE 492128 1225714 670.0 8300 668.00
BC Vancouver AL 10 CKVU-PT 484512 1232930 603.0 1100 192.00
BC Vancouver OP 10 CKVU-TV INDE 484512 1232930 603.0 325000 192.00 +The transitional station would be on Channel 47 from the same location as Global and would operate at 8.3kW ERP. Post-transitionally it would revert to Channel 10 on Saltspring Island.

That is great news about CKVU, Stampeder. I hope they stay on channel 47 from Mt Seymour permanently, maybe at higher power. It's selfish but we're low down in False Creek and can't get channel 10 with our little 2-bay UHF antenna, but have LOS to the antennas on Mt. Seymour.
