Geez, I had to go out for a short while and THEN it comes up while I'm gone! :) It's coming in loud and clear here. Too bad the program's PQ isn't very good for showing off a new DTV signal. It scanned in immediately on several different ATSC tuners at my house.

Here's how the stats look on my MythTV box.

Stampeder, in total agreement with you concerning the picture quality of Maury...fuzzy! Display info on the Sonytv indicates 1080i 16x9.

Well, I'm detecting a signal out here and, at 2%, it's more than CIVT for me...

CBUT and CHAN are still present at their constant 55-65% range.

Today at 4pm and 5pm are two shows that may or may not be available in HD, but at 11:30pm is David Letterman, which I hope will be in 16:9 1080i with DD5.1 audio just like it is on CBS.

CHNM upgraded their studios to digital over the last couple of years so It will be interesting to see the various ethnic newscasts in DTV, although we don't know if HD gear will be used. As I type this the Korean news is on but I believe it is pre-recorded. It does not seem to have the clean PQ of digital.

For folks using Schedules Direct for filling their programming guide in MythTV or other applicable software you can set the XMLTV number for CHNM-DT to 33725, which is the number for their analogue OTA channel.

Well enjoy the bannerless screen but I suspect they will have to put in some type of station id info soon
I saw some hd comercials that to me appeared full hd so I hope there is pass through on this system.
This signal is coming out of the transmitter where Chan 22.1 is transmitting. Just clear up both stations are coming off the same transmitter CHNM feed it to Chan where is is combined then both signals are sent on the same transmitter

Picture quality to it seems mixed with sd and hd looks to me like 720, but my eyes are not the best measuring device.

Just got home from work and scanned for new channels, got 1 new channel message - YAY!!! Locked in at 65%, compared to 95% for the others, reports 1080i 16x9, CC works. Looks really good to me, the analog channel had ghosting here, digital looks much much better.

I'm hoping we get some true 1080i 16x9 content by the Olympics, but this is a great start.

Is CHNM weaker then CBC Global or CTV? I haven't seen anything all day in Victoria on 20.1 the others have good signal.

Just plugged in my DTV converter box and it's showing a signal on channel 20 but not enough to lock. I guess it may be time to tweak the antenna.

I hardly managed to get a lock onto the signal. It's not strong enough to effectively reach into downtown from Mount Seymour. Constantly pixellates.

I called OMNI and they told me that they would not even start the transmition any time soon. I assured them that they already started and that I am watching and receiving the signal. Then they put me on hold to check and confirmed they really did start but said that it will not be in HD. I said signal is 1080i, but they again said that for now there won't be any HD, just SD digital.

Is OMNI just one station in Vancouver?
Out of Toronto, they have two digital stations....

I can't speak for this new OMNI digital station in Vancouver. However, the Toronto OMNI station broadcasts David Letterman in 1080i 16x9--PQ is identical to the CBS affiliate out of Buffalo.

Maury is still recorded in standard definition--and looks crappy here on OMNI as well...

During a huge musical chairs game of TV station ownership that took place in the Vancouver area in the last 10 or so years about the only station that didn't change ownership in some way was the CBC. ;) OMNI BC was originally an independently owned multi-ethnic station operated out of Vancouver called Channel M on channel 42.

Rogers had originally bought CHNU TV in Abbotsford, a low powered analogue station on channel 66 that qualified for prime cable TV channel assignment in the Lower Mainland, so they had no reason to boost its tiny OTA ERP. The programming was family oriented, with a fairly strong Christian slant. Rather than turn it into OMNI BC they sold it to a Manitoba broadcaster that now operates CHNU as "Joy TV" with the same programming focus as before.

Rogers then acquired Channel M, which they've relabeled OMNI BC. The biggest difference between the BC and Ontario versions is that the Vancouver station continues to fill the evening prime time slots with one hour newscasts in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Punjabi. They borrow news resources heavily from CIVT (CTV).

Channel M's original CRTC license provisions meant that they were supposed to have opened their CHNM-DT channel earlier this year, but as time got closer it was clear that they were nowhere near that deadline. They successfully received an extension, but time was running out on that too. My hunch is that Rogers, the new owner, was not going to be able to meet that deadline using their original plan of co-locating with CBUT-DT (CBC) up on Mt. Seymour, so they came up with this temporary solution of using CHAN-DT's (Global's) site until Post-Transition. Since Global has been up and running for quite awhile this new solution is really just a turn-key one in which OMNI BC just runs a feed to Global and doesn't have to go through all the new transmitter testing that IC would normally require.

I'd appreciate any comment from OMNI BC on whether my hunch about the sudden Global connection is correct. :) I'm also wondering if Rogers feeds CHNM's signal to Global's Calgary Operations Centre first, or whether the jumper connection is a local one.

The picture quality on 64-1 OMNI1 is inferior to 4-1 CBS when Letterman is on, even after the bright white pixel line on the left was fixed. Not bad but there is a difference.

I hope the BC OMNI channel will do better. A correct clock and program info will be nice...

Well, it took since April, 2008 to get a sixth OTA DTV station in our area...With time they'll all go digital, but for now in the Metro Vancouver area the digital stations are:

CBUT-DT (CBC) 58-1 -> 2.1
CIVT-DT (CTV) 33.1 -> 32.1
CHAN-DT (Global) 22.2
KVOS-DT (Bellingham Independent) 35.1 -> 12.1
KBCB-DT (Bellingham NBC-Shopping) 19.1 -> 24.1

Not that everyone can get them, mind you...CHNM-DT (OMNI BC) 20.1 -> 42.1

PPL4GOLF: I've never noticed the "pixel line" on OMNI's broadcast of David Letterman. And after watching the show on both OMNI and WIVB Buffalo, I can't say that I notice a difference...YMMV.

Stampeder: OMNI broadcasts multi-language programming in Toronto as well--on both of their Toronto stations.
