IC has them listed as AU (Authorized) at 12.6KW but not OP (Operational) yet, so maybe CIVT-DT are still testing::BC Vancouver AU 33 CIVT-DT CTV 492128 1225714 740.3 12600 584.00

I sure hope they're just testing, as it's disappeared off the radar for me. I haven't received it in months. I had my hopes up that they would coincide their HD news debut with a x-mit boost ... I know, wishful thinking again, but the olympics are fast approaching...

I don't usually follow/post in the Vancouver thread but thought you guys might be interested in this, from today's CRTC releases:

Application by Rogers Broadcasting Limited relating to the broadcasting licence for the transitional digital television programming undertaking CHNM-DT Vancouver, British Columbia.

The licensee proposes to modify the authorized contours by increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 772 watts to 4,300 watts (maximum ERP from 1,354 watts to 8,300 watts with an effective height of the antenna above average terrain of 670 metres) and by relocating the antenna.

The licensee states that the population count inside the digital local A contour would increase from 2,105,995 to 2,116,180 and from 2,282,115 to 2,531,425 in the digital local B contour.

The licensee also states that the proposed changes would result in better signal quality for its Vancouver listeners using its own facilities.

That's great news, moody - nice to see Rogers confirming what we know to be obvious reasons for higher ERP levels from Mt. Seymour stations, and I hope this happens soon.

This morning's IC database update shows that CHNM-DT's status has been changed from AU (Authorized) to TO (Temporary Operating), as has the antenna location.

Before (was to be co-located with CBUT-DT on Mt. Seymour):BC Vancouver AU 20 CHNM-DT(1) INDE 492111 1225723 615.0 1354 506.00After (to be co-located with CHAN-DT on Mt. Seymour):BC Vancouver TO 20 CHNM-DT INDE 492128 1225714 670.0 8300 506.00Post-Transitional (to be co-located with CBUT-DT on Mt. Seymour):BC Vancouver AL 20 CHNM-PT 492111 1225723 615.0 53000 506.00

That's strange, since Roger's application to make this move (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2009/2009-758.htm#3) just got posted on the CRTC website the same day. (View the application documents (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/public/broad/applications/2009/2009-1538-2.zip).) There should be a 'UC' record for the proposed move to the Rogers tower from the CBC tower.

Note in the application documents Rogers states that it does NOT intend to up the ERP on channel 20 post-tranistion.

In a response to a question by CRTC staff, Rogers replied:
2. Please explain any post-transitional plans with respect to the increase
in coverage such as increase in ERP and other related information.
2
Response:
We believe that the operating parameters and coverage area we have proposed
will be sufficient in a post-transitional environment.

Yep, it seems clear as mud from a technical and regulatory standpoint, so I have to wonder if it was a pragmatic decision based on necessity since it involves a short-term DTV antenna location move over to Global's site rather than on the CBC's.

I rescanned last night (optical line of sight to Mount Seymour), and "temporarily operating" does not seem to involve any signals.

I've been checking for CHAN-DT periodically too but so far nothing on 20.

I've seen stations in the IC database with TO status sit silent for weeks before our members report them coming live, so this isn't a surprise.

Yep, CHNM-DT's DTV physical channel will be 20 but I don't know if they have plans to PSIP Remap to 42 or any other number.

Heads up for all those this wish to see the first test of CHNM-DT 20.1 it is planned for Thursday the real time line is not clear but it is expected around the early morning hours as an engineer is taking the trip up to the transmission site for 10am Thursday morning, this great information comes from a call I had with the station this morning:cool:

Thanks for that, danbcman, I'll be running a Signal strength/SNR/BER scanner on channel 20 all day Thursday!

I hope someone with TSReader can do some data stream captures too.

Of course this is just testing, but its still exciting. :)

I have that on my winxp drive and once it goes live I will re boot to xp and capture this info in TSReader
:p

Additional info is that once the testing process is done they estimate the OTA online permanit :)status will be very early in the New Year

Generally IC puts new digital OTA stations on a 3 week test period to confirm/adjust performance, during which the station has to overlay an ID card onto their programming. I assume that will be the case with CHNM-DT.

What I was not able to get was a lenght of testing plans the fellow made it sound like testing was approved for a very short time and from the conversation it was only going to be a one up event on Thursday?

I just ran a test on my xp drive and using Watchhdtv ( which can sit on one station ) and the signal monitor app I got a reading for 20.1 and that was what I got for the past few days and that is the VSB sync and the AFC lock readings are active so it is sencing something at first I thought it may be from Sea Tac but the weather conditions were too off for a signal that far away.
