The site of their proposed trasmitter is Mt. Seymour. Good for Lower Mainland coverage and reception. Worse for the Island.

Looks like Rogers has applied for a digital transitional licence for CKVU in Vancouver:

Reading their application, this is because channel 47 is only their transitional allotment and it is more cost effective to put the temporary transmitter on Mt. Seymour. Post transition they will be reverting to channel 10 and will replicate their analog coverage pattern.

If they are going to replicate their analog coverage then people like me in downtown Vancouver won't be able to receive them. I wish they would stay on Mt Seymour or at least keep a UHF repeater up there for people who can't get them on VHF.

Any projected date when their digital signal will be on air?

I just received the following message from the VP of TV Engineering at Rogers Broadcasting regarding CKVU-DT:
Vancouver sites are under construction and should be operational shortly.

any one having issues with global DT today? My TV signal meter is jumping all over the place on 8-1... steady on the other two DT channels.

I finally added the 2x4 wire mess to my SBGH and removed the 1/2" chicken wire mess that was there... and I loose Global??

Nothing more than that from them yet? No target date of any kind? This is very interesting, as CKVU will be carrying a couple of Canucks games this year.

I wrote to Rogers to ask them about their CKVU application, particularly the timing of when they hope to be "live", and also the placement of the broadcast point (current analog position VS Mount Seymour).

I won't post the response verbatim, as there are all the legal disclaimers about confidentiality at the bottom of the email, so I will be safe rather than sorry on that one.

However, this is the essence of the reply:

CKVU's hearing is December 14th, and they are hopeful of a decision from the CRTC in January. Assuming that happens, they plan to be on the air starting "within two months (max)" of the CRTC decision.

I also asked whether they intend to remain at Mount Seymour or will ultimately move the digital broadcast to their current analog broadcast point. The answer is that they intend to stay at Mount Seymour. Interesting, this is different info than what Roger1818 reports above. I wonder which is correct.

At any rate, this is indeed good news for those of us who enjoy the HD OTA service in SW BC. Hoping to see CKVU sometime in March!

I wonder which is correct.CKVU's application to the CRTC will have the information on their intentions in it, but there's no guaranteeing that it will be approved without changes. As things stand right now, the Industry Canada database (http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/) still shows their pre-application data.

must be experiencing some modulation problems today. The signal goes from 76 to 40...constantly!

No problems with 8.1 or 32.1, just CBC.

On my MythTV box I measured these with my pcHDTV-5500 ATSC tuner's signal meter:

22.1 (8.1) CHAN-DT Global has 0% signal
33.1 (32.1) CIVT-DT CTV is at 67% with stuttering instead of its usual solid lock at ~80%
58.1 (2.1) CBUT-DT CBC is at 72% and solid instead of its usual solid lock at ~90%

Weather Conditions:

Rainy, low cloud, 9°C, wind SE 10km/h, humidity 87%

Are you able to get 8 analog?

I don't have an analogue OTA tuner set up right now. I just checked Delta Cable basic analogue and CHAN Global on 11 is fine, so they're still in operation but just not transmitting from Mt. Seymour it seems.

Is something up with Global this morning? I am unable to receive anything for some reason, not a sniff on either the digital (22.1) or analog (8) channel. Are other having similar issues, or is it just me (Brookswood area of Langley)? I am using the exact same set up I have been using successfully for months. CBC and CTV are coming in without a problem.
