For me cbc dtv drops off 58.1
BCTV dtv changes from remapping from 22.1 to 8.1 (it returns to 22.1 once the tropo skip ends) and also the psip info has more in it as 8.1 whereas 22.1 is next to empty I have taken photos last night of this as it has been often and worth noting. Kmyq is the station that comes in and the BCTV changes happen. These changes are on a Samsung Plasma TV.

626pm cbc 58.1 comes back on

All 3 locals CBUT/CHAN/CIVT broadcasts in D5.1 audio all the time, regardless of the programs. Whether you get sound on the surround channels on non-5.1 programs is a different matter.

As Marc says in the thread CBC-HD Official Thread (No Hockey) (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=464126#post464126), on CBC programs encoded with pro-logic are broadcast in 2.0 to preserve the encoding. All other programs (even ones in stereo) are broadcast in 5.1.

Yes the construction crane is gone and with that I thought I may loose all the OTA for Vancouver but it is certainly my day I get the following aiming at the SW CBC DTV, BCTV DTV, CTV DTV. and thanks to the SW aim I am also getting KVOS DTV and the KBCB DTV each of these are locking and 5 out of 10 bars on the Samsung TV. The aiming is almost pin point a little iether way and drop goes the signal but the three new towers are giving me the suface for the bounce Yea!!!:)

Has anyone been hearing a strange noise on ctv-dt lately? It sounds sort of like bells ringing during louder segments. I started noticing it during the emmy's on sunday. CBC and Global sound fine so I don't think it's my tv.

Yeah, it's been sounding strange to me too. However, the fact that I'm even seeing CIVT-DT is an anomaly, since it normally sits at 0-2% for me. Today and yesterday have been very strange for me, with signal strength coming in near 70% at times. I guess this is what tropo is like...

I will give it a listen right now

I did not hear anything unusual?

The post Marc made on that thread was 3 years ago. Perhaps things have changed since? The OTA signals I get never switch out of D5.1 mode, whether on my HDTVs or my HDTV capture cards. That includes all the live programs, older programs, movies from 50's all the way to the latest on CBC. This is unlike cable channels where many of them switch out to D2.0 on older programs or commercials.

Anyone having problems with CIVT-DT? CBC and Global are above average in signal strength but I haven't been able to get CTV in a couple of days

Ya I have noticed it all over the scale up then down in signal strength right down to zero as I get it as the lowest strength recieved station signal, the up and down is very noticable to me.

I gave a call just a min ago to engineering at CIVT and asked if there was any work being done on the transmitter over the past few days and there was not any I explained the fluctuations to him he will he said have the site checked out for possible transmitter problems.

Thanks, danbcman. I have been having odd reception as well. I normally can't get it at all, then received it very strong earlier this week, only to have it b ack down to 0% the passt few days. I was hoping that they were doing something to their transmitter that would end up with me getting it :). Wishful thinking, I know...

Just tuned in CTV and getting solid 98% signal for last 15 minutes. In the last 3 month or so CTV has had a better signal than CBC or Global. I have an attic mounted amplified CM4221 to pick up these local channels.

Ya right now it is awhsome for me too.
I wonder if something was corrected?

I called back there is nothing that has been done over the past few days at all he did say how ever that atmospheric conditions do play a role in reception because of there low 150 watts output.
oh well just the way it is for now.

It's coming in solid for me now as well. Actually it's even stronger then CTV or Global.

I'm curious about the quoted output. I received this from them last month when I enquired about their transmission power:

Hopefully they hadn't really bumped it yet, because it didn't help me at all. I haven't checked today to see if it's coming in...

It might be good to get a comfirmation on that again but this fellow today was very clear nothing has been done in a while and the power level is low until CRTC approves them higher.

I'm still awaiting another e-mail response from a few weeks back. As far as I know, they already have their approvals (based on info in this very thread). The email response I posted above was received August 17. Maybe there's still hope for me yet...

Looks like Rogers has applied for a digital transitional licence for CKVU in Vancouver:
