It is more to do with his oreintation to the tower he may be getting bounce or strong multipath influences?

It's slowly climbing back up again. Might be a loose wire... not looking forward to getting on the roof and fixing the double gray.

Probably better to do it now than wait a couple of months for the snow!

I find it hard to think of a loose wire when the other stations are coming in at the same as before? All or nothing is that the way of this digital stuff?

CHEK might still live - see this thread:

Nope, it won't work - both countries forbid foreign OTA broadcasts from their soil. In the application process for a TV broadcast license both countries have very specific, stringent requirements.

KBCB is not an LP class station, so they cannot legally rebroadcast SeaTac stations without a joint business arrangement and some financial considerations for the originating station.

Big surprise today with the CRTC ;)
It appears that final extensions are not really that final.

Rogers has received an extension until August 31, 2011 to commence digital broadcasting for CHNM in Vancouver and Victoria.

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2009/2009-504.htm

"The Commission approves the application by Rogers to extend the deadline to commence operation of the digital television programming undertaking CHNM-DT Vancouver and its digital transmitter CHNM-DT Victoria, authorized in Broadcasting Decisions 2006-56 and 2006-289 respectively to 31 August 2011. The Commission notes that this is the second extension granted for this undertaking."

So much for having extra Olympic coverage in HD OTA.
So much for Roger's commitments given during the ownership hearings.

We can only hope that there is a joint application soon for a new CKVU and CHNM tower on Seymour. CKVU has a final digital allotment of 10 so I can't see them signing on before August 2011. CHNM has a final allotment of 20 which is also the transitional allotment.

Rogers is delaying DTV to the bitter end, it seems.

I've come to the conclusion that unless it is spent on lobbying the CRTC to be allowed to suck a lot more money out of consumers' wallets in the form of mandatory fees/taxes, no Canadian broadcaster is willing to invest a single penny in their future, and are even reluctant to spend beyond the bare minimum to keep things running. Oh well, as long as the executives get their bonuses that's all that matters, even if they are slowly destroying Canadian broadcasting.

second and final extension... right, that's what they said about the first one ;)

dbarron's right. I mean, if saving local TV was that important they'd remind people that they can receive their signal without a subscription, and depending on your area, reception in HD. But they are reluctant to go for the jugular. Hmmm.

FYI for those that are curious about CIVT-DT, I received this response from them when enquiring about it...Dear Sir,

Yes, we recently increased the power and we are currently broadcasting with ERP 5.7kW average power or 12.6kW maximum....

At 8:40am it appears from my Delta Cable feed that CKVU channel 10 analogue is off the air for some reason.

I can't check it OTA today, so can someone confirm/deny if their transmitter is down?

Do the 3 local stations broadcast in 5.1 audio if the original programming has it, or in stereo only?
All 3 locals CBUT/CHAN/CIVT broadcasts in D5.1 audio all the time, regardless of the programs. Whether you get sound on the surround channels on non-5.1 programs is a different matter.

picking up 2.1 this afternoon? Show a signal of 78 but no picture or sound.
