I wonder if any of the self-supporting transmitting towers on 104 Street between Hwy 10 and Hwy 99 in Delta will be a new home for any digital transmitters:confused:

I don't see why a cable company (Rogers) would want their station OTA. People would ask "why do we need cable?". Probably why they are reluctant...

danbcman, those are radio only:

Insomniac, that's not the case. Rogers OMNI DTV stations are already up in Toronto, and they just completed the installation of 2 OMNI DTV stations in Ottawa. Hopefully they will turn their attention to Vancouver now and also boost their ERP to a realistic level rather than what the IC database is showing

The were granted an extension to August 31, 2009. The application was approved by the CRTC on March 6.

This is at least the second extension. Let's hope that they are able to make it this time - hopefully with CITY-TV along with it!

The interesting thing is that they had asked for an extension until 2010, but only received an extension to the end of the summer.

There was no explanation by the CRTC why it was so short. Perhaps the CHNM licenses are up on August 31 2009? (August 31 is a common license expiry date)

I receive CBC, Global and CTV digital OTA quite well from my location in Burnaby. Where will the proposed transmitters for CHNM-DT and CityTV be situated? Seymour?

I hope I'll be able to receive those when they eventually go online.

coolin, the Industry Canada database has all the listings for present and future locations:

http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/

And the latest data shows that:

CHNM-DT (OMNIBC) will be colocated with CIVT-DT (CTV) on Mt. Seymour.

CKVU-PT (CITY) will remain on Salt Spring Island and do a flash-cutover of channel 10 from analogue to digital with no transition.

On June 12, 2009, the date of the long awaited U.S. DTV cutover, this thread will replace the previous one, which will be closed but still readable:

Any improvement with your recpetion now that the June 12 date is here? Other forums have noted significant improvement!

Let us know. In particular, Nukdoc may see some substantial improvement.

My at-home OTA ATSC reception (southwest side of Burnaby Mountain) remains unchanged, CBC, Global, CTV, KVOS and KBCB. This is with an indoor UHF antenna and a set top converter I bought at Radio Shack in Portland last fall.

I took a portable NTSC TV set up to the Cypress ski hill parking lot yesterday, elevation about 900 meters. The only U.S. signal I could pick up was a very faint home shopping channel up at the top of UHF (Port Angeles?). Pre-transition, KCPQ and KCTS were the strongest signals up there, since CBUT is behind Grouse Mountain. Now their frequencies are a whole lot of dead air.

I'm getting a faint CBC repeater at home on channel 13 (Bowen Island?) that I never used to get before.

I really must rig up a portable DTV setup some day...

I really must rig up a portable DTV setup some day...For that you might want to consider a laptop with a USB 2.0 ATSC tuner device and a good antenna. It sure would be nice to see how well the SeaTac DTV signals carry up at that altitude. :)

I did many scans over the past few days and I have no improvement on any seatac and no loss on the canadian stuff iether. One change I did notice is on anolog I get a greyed out picture of channel 10 now on channel 9 the channel 10 is still fine.

Using my 4228HD and amplifier on my roof top in North Van, I did not notice any new channels. We are too far away to benefit from the augmented signal!

CKVU-PT (CITY) will remain on Salt Spring Island and do a flash-cutover of channel 10 from analogue to digital with no transition.

Yep, can't see how that plan could run into any bumps.

It depends on what sort of flash-cut CKVU will try. Except for U.S. stations that transitioned this past week from their analogue transmitter to their already running digital one, some stations flash-cut in one of two ways: directly from their analogue transmitter to a new digital transmitter and antenna that had not been running previously (analogue off, digital on) to new digital gear that had been retrofitted for ATSC broadcasting onto their original transmitter (transmitter analogue functionality off, transmitter digital functionality on)Hopefully the decision in Canada to wait for the U.S. transition to conclude before our own one is done will pay off with "lessons learned" from their experiences down there.

Is anyone else not receiving CBUT-DT in Vancouver Saturday night June 20?

(You can tell I'm a geezer cause I'm missing my CBC on a Saturday night. :) )

..you weren't alone. I was showing a very strong signal strength, but just had black screen...

Must have been a programming problem then if you were getting a solid signal but nothing coming over it. Were you getting a digital lock, zapperman and dbarron?

Not sure but my TV displayed "No signal". It's back today, though :)

No, when I scanned the tuner didn't see it, but when I entered the channel, it showed the signal strength info only. It was back on today, but now I notice it has dropped way down (no program visible). On the plus side, I picked up CIVT for the first time today and it's strength is steady at its highest ever for me, but is still not watchable.
