Also excited about Global going online soon. My guess is that M Channel will go up sometime in the summer. Then we'll get KCPQ-13 + KCTS-9 VHF Feb\09. Should be reachable by a lot more people once it is on the VHF band!!!

Everyone, I've lost it. I think I shouldn't read DHC before bed, 'cause in my dream last night, CHAN-DT was up and running on 22.1 in 1080i. I think I need to unplug

Do I want Global HD that badly that I'm dreaming of it, or was it a glimps of how I'll stumble on it in the future? I was manually checking it out of curiosity, and it was up and running. And my thoughts were to get online and tell everyone at DHC asap. Then I checked out 20.1 to see if Channel M was up, and it was too, but only a test pattern an only in 480i.

Here is some info I recived from CityTV when asked about thier DTV plans...Thank you for your email inquiring about our future plans at Citytv. At the moment we don't know exactly when we will go to high def format. We have until the Summer of 2011 to change over. Currently our transmission tower is situated atop a mountain on Saltspring Island. We are examining transferring our broadcast tower to other locations, possibly moving to one of the local mountains on the mainland, but nothing has been decided at this point. Most likely the decisons regarding these matters will be made later this year or early in 2009 to allow for the installation, testing, and shadow operation of the equipment to meet the 2011 deadline.

lol, had to smile as I read that! Reminds me.. a couple of weeks ago I had dreamed that I was experimenting with a C-Band dish.. scanning, finding a bunch of HD channels, and just being in nirvana :D

So are you saying that there's a new channel online? I'm not home to check but can't wait to test it out myself.

Does anyone know what the operating Frequency is for CBC HDTV coming of the OTA antenna on Seymour Mountain.
Ps. not 2-1 or 58 but the transmitter frequency.

CBUT-DT is broadcasting on channel 58. The broadcast frequency is from 734Mhz to 740Mhz (6Mhz wide bandwidth).

How is that ^^ any different than CTV broadcasting HBO programming (cable only) over the air here? You don't hear of SeaTac stations or Washington State BDUs bitching to the CRTC about possible loss of business because they're able to pick up HBO programming over the air via CTV.

On a lighter note, due to the pathetic ERP of CIVT-DT, I doubt SeaTac stations/BDUs would have much of a leg to stand on when complaining. CTV viewers are lucky to get a consistant signal south of the Fraser River, nevermind south of the 49th.

I noticed last night at my parents' house that A-channel wasn't broadcasting in analog (ch17). Just snow. Then same today at my apartment downtown.

Any word on what's going on? Upgrading to digital broadcast perhaps ;)

I pick up this on 23 analog and chanel 17 wants to use 23 DT so that may be a hold back for upgrading to A Chanel going dgital unless the broadcast for
CHAN-TV-6 Wilson Creek goes on ota 23 DT too.

From my location pointing at 350 deg. N in North Delta towards Mt. Seymour I get channel 23 booming in on my CM4228's left forward side lobe. I never bother with it because its just a Global repeater. Good point about the channel clash.

People in Vancouver (and Nanaimo where I live) recieve CIVI-TV-2 (UHF 17) [a repeater of the A-Channel ]. We do not recieve CIVI (UHF 53) [the main transmiter in Victoria].

It is CIVI 53 in Victoria that appears to have phyiscal channel 23 reserved for its digitial asignement and not CIVI-TV-2 Vancouver. CIVI-TV-2 would appear to have to use something else, somethig not yet assigned.

Ironically UHF 23, CHAN-TV-6 Wilson Creek, which is located here in Nanaimo, is a ghosty mess where as VHF 8 CHAN on Mt. Seymour is my best analog station.

I was walking downtown yesterday near the olympic clock and spoke to a guy getting into one of those CityTV news SUVs about when we'd see CityTV in Vancouver broadcast digitally. He said to me, "why put money into something if money can't be had from it. We're broadcasting from Toronto digitally." I said, "Why not in Vancouver?, other stations are already digital here." He replied, "It'll take legislation to force us to go digital, so by 2012." I corrected him and said, "actually the cutoff date is Aug 31, 2011, will you be going digital the day before?". Now get this, "It'll probably be 2012 or later, with appeals and such." Then I said, "yeah, the CRTC needs to grow a backbone". He said "what do you expect, the CRTC is full of industry people who have special interests. What they need are more people like me, union leaders". I turned around, rolled my eyes, and walked away.

I was purturbed by this, because it shows total lack of forward progression and technological advancement. They're planning to drag their feet, appeal, instead of just getting off their asses, bite the cost of upgrading, and getting it done (which they'll have to eventually if they want to keep their manditory carriage and simsub rights).

So needless to say, we won't see CKVU-DT Ch.47.1 for a long time.

It makes alot of sence now when the transision happens the uhf 23 will simply be change to the UHF 23, BC Wilson Creek 51 CHAN-DT-6 and then no conflict will happen. But that does leave a deeper question really about
32 33 VANCOUVER BC CIVT-TV and the real plans for the station?
Interesting it seems there are a few pieces of this puzzel being kept in a dark place for many not to see.
