I think saying Global: CHAN-DT is in the near future is very wishful thinking. I suspect it may be several years before Global begins broadcasting digital OTA.

yeah, they've been sitting on that transistional license for 2 years now... they're no closer to broadcasting digital now than they were two years ago. Channel M will beat them to the punch, I reckon.

management is saying CHAN-HD should be up and running by the fall. But looking at the progress of the construction on the new HD studio, I'd say early new year is more likely.

As for broadcasting digital, everything is in place to broadcast digitally except for the trasmitter as far as I know. The station finished it's digital conversion in February.

I speak French and while I have a clear line of sight to Grouse, one of the more difficult stations for me to receive is CBC-French 26. They consantly use the HD symbol in their logo - as I assume they are re-transmitting programs from Montreal which are DT. It seems to me that they should be transmitting here in Vancouver digitally as well - since CBC English is. Anyone know about their plans?

Also, does anyone know why the BC Knowledge Network doesn't have a local transmitter? Given that our tax dollars are paying for this station, and for many years I donated to their subscription campaigns, this strikes me as outrageous. If they really went High Definition, it might create a larger audience awareness than they could ever possibly get by being carried on Shaw. With Vancouver to host the Olympics in 2010, and the world media,
it seems to me all our local stations would be better advised to ignore the 2011 CRTC deadline and move to DT quickly.

nukdoc, this thread has lots of answers for you going back through it, and the SRC tower is on Mt. Seymour.

There have been no announcements of plans to convert SRC or Knowledge Network to Digital OTA at this point, but if you receive an email response from them please post what you find out.

I am getting activity on CHEK DT 43.1 anyone else getting anything?

stampeder
2007-06-24, 01:18 PM
Nothing on 43.1, not even a digital carrier to detect. Hmmm... maybe a local glitch?

danbcman
2007-06-24, 01:32 PM
Well on my one unit nothing on the other 10% with spikes to 25% nearing a lock. I will watch it for a bit today I did rotate the 4228 and it is a very narrow area in which it shows signal strangely it is also the same place where I pick up anolog 6 the best? In just the past short time it is becoming steady now at 10% with the spikes going up then to 10% and not dropping to 0

CHEK 6 analogue is transmitted from Saturna Island, so if you are seeing something on CHEK-DT 43.1 at the exact same bearing then you've got me really intrigued about what they're doing over there! It could also simply be UHF interference/harmonics generated by their old analogue VHF transmitter, but you'd probably see it on several other channels too in that exact same direction.

No it seems to me I read in the threads hear some where that a plan to put a repeater for DTV there? The activity is not going away I have tried calling global but they are closed and I did not feel like leaving a message.

danbcman
2007-06-24, 02:14 PM
No the only strange activity is 43.1 no other stations are showing any life other than the ones we are supose to get 19.1 35.1

blakew

I'm picking up the activity on 43.1 too, however, I think it might be what Stampeder said... interference from ChannelM UHF42 is my best guess. Considering CH is owned by Global, don't you think they'd bring their main network online in digital before a CH station?

danbcman
2007-06-24, 04:00 PM
Well my guess would be to get a reliable system in place in a lessor market and have the technicians and hardware experianced nad also a direct responce to a local bradcaster now filling the local air waves with thier DTV as the logo says Bellingham Vancouver Victoria

danbcman
2007-06-24, 05:17 PM
Well it is 215pm and the strange effect activity on 43.1 is getting stronger the spikes I am getting are now hitting 30+%.
Just a bit more and I will get an image to see whats on?

Well it faded away as quietly as it appeared
I notice that KBCB is black screen 19.1

Nothing here. A scan didn't yield anything. I even moved the antenna to the SW and zip. Leads me to guess that it is something going on in the Vancouver area as opposed to Victoria. Also no good news to report about 32.1 / 33.2 :(

2.1 / 58.8 reads around 73ish
12.1 / 35.121 -- 41 (no pic) - 84
32.1 / 33.2 -- 27-30
19.2 / 24.1 -- 41-56 (no programming)
