I know that there are topics regarding this but after searching I was unable to find a specific answer to my specific question. I am looking to stream live HDTV across my network. I have a Shaw box. If I output the Shaw box to my PC using a TV tuner such as one made by Hauppauge I assume I will not get HD because it's a coaxial connection. Is this correct? I would need to find one that supports a composite connection I assume.

Also, I know there is a process involving firewire however it does not work in Vista 32. I can view live TV on my PC but for some reason I cannot stream it. Has anyone been able to do this in XP with success? Or maybe even Vista?

Using firewire is never reliable - there are lots of threads on this forum. There is one tuner that will allow you to output HD into your PC and that is the Hauppauge HD-PVR. To use this box you connect the component outputs of your Shaw box (red, blue, green) to the inputs of the HD-PVR and you connect the HD-PVR to your PC via a USB connection.

To get the most out of this setup I would recommend that you use SageTV as a PVR software. Then you can stream HD to all other PCs in your house (via ethernet) and also TVs if they have a Sage HD-200 extender.
