I was wondering if there are any current HollywebDVD members here? I'm thinking of signing up with them, but haven't got a response back to an email sent to their customer service address (in itself not a good sign). I'm curious as to whether their DVD database contains only things they have available. They list a few movies (Egoyan's "The Adjuster", Rohmer's "Claire's Knee") which aren't available anywhere else I can find in Canada, and I'm just a little suspicious.
Otherwise, their selection for my purposes (older, hard to find stuff) seems to be better than the others I've looked at (DVDflix, Cinemaflow, DVDhype), at least based on my test sample of 35 movies.

I live in Edmonton and the turn around time for dvd's from me to them and a new one back to me is 5 days. With there location being in St.Albert that is way to slow. As to email responses they are a very hit and miss company with some of your emails being answered quickly others taking days. I have been with HollyWeb since July.2003 and I am seriously thinking of cancelling at the end of the month. For me 5 days to go 30 minutes is simply slow service. During the month of December it took 7-10 days to receive turn around time on selections. The obvious advantage to online rentals is getting more movies in a month cheaper than you could at your local video store. One major flaw being you are at the mercy of the online rental company to send you something new from your online list. Most of the new release dvd's that come out that are the top ten on my list take sometimes 3-7 weeks to get. Of course each person will have a different experience but for me I at this time would not recommend HollyWeb Dvd to friends or family.

Thanks for the feedback. I never did get a reply to my emails, and have put Hollyweb in the doghouse. I've signed up for the free trials of DVDflix and Cinemaflow (both on the west coast), and I'll post an update here for anyone interested when I see how the turnaround times and service are, and who I stick with.
I'm not really worried about new releases (those I can get locally if necessary), but rarer backlist titles. Both DVDflix and Cinemaflow have expressed assurances that they are serious about obtaining things for their customers, but we'll see how that works out. I notice that Hollyweb has a "pay as you go" plan (they charge $5/movie and keep a $30 deposit for each disc, instead of the monthly fee). I may give this a try to "milk" any goodies in their list - it should also give me an idea of how truthful their database is.
