Hey There:

One time, I called Dish Network to see if they take trade-ins on Canadian dish eq. for free programming. They said they don't do that.

I believe this means that, at least to them, the BEV/SC stuff is legal in the US. However, DN is not a member of the Coalition against Satellite Signal Theft. Since DaveTV (Direc) is a member, maybe they do trade-ins?

Also, if it was illegal, wouldn't US Customs have halted shipment of my BEV box purchased from KU Sat in Montreal? Maybe they would have stopped it if I went to the Wash. State/BC border to get one? BTW, it was sent by Can. Post/USPS if that matters.

I've had BEV service for over a year, it's still on. I take this to mean they're not active against foreign subs., as they've stated. I have service with a company raided by RCMP for US service to Canada. At that point, they could have stopped the reverse, but nope. 8) -A-

It is not illegal to receive foreign satellite signals in the USA.

Bev and *C cannot knowingly sell their services to people in the USA because they do not have a licence to sell there.

So they put up a big front that they do not do it. Although how do you explain why so many Canadian are paying for their services with an American credit card.

Was the company that you where dealing with raided by the RCMP or Bev?

The company that I used to work for was raided by Bev.

Yes they also seized the file folders for our reverse grey market customers. No one's service was shut down.

However, there is one provision on selling a *C or Bev to people in the USA.

Where was the box manufactured?

It is illegal to resale merchandise back into the USA that has been manufactured in the USA for foreign only sales.

They would not bother to stop one or two boxes though.

I used to put on the customs sheet, gift, resale value $1.

Yes, they were raided by the RCMP & BEV. It's Can-Am Sat. However, their smalldish.com site still lists their brokerage fees for US Gray Market subs. So I had to call for the reverse.

And the other thing, the BEV box was made in the US. But I don't think it says anything about foreign use only. But then what about the ones imported by Global Communications from Wisconsin? They do a lot of boxes, I'm sure (but their prices are high compared to KU.) And then, there's the ones sold on Ebay...

Which broker did you work for? I would think they have one for each time zone. I chose the one from BC based on that reason. :)

Do you know how many prog. brokers there are? I also heard there are some based in the US, to avoid being shut down from Can. for DTV & Dish.

Oh, BTW if you saw the Charlie Chat, you might have heard the question about why they don't carry the CBC on their system? They said it was because of the programming rights, such as Hockey Night, which is avail. on the NHL Center Ice US version package. But I don't think they carry it every Saturday night, do they? They will also show the Hockey Day coverage as well. They could carry it, but they would have to black out the stuff they do carry on US chans. which might be unfeasible.

What do you think? -A-

al7220;

Can-Am was not raided by the RCMP, only BEV.

I was the manager there at the time.

All boxes made in the USA for BEV are for foreign resale only. Sending them seperately through the mail seems fine. However, if you tried to cross the border with 20 or more, you could run into some difficulty. I was told this at the US border crossing.

Can-Am is legally allowed to operate because of the Charter Challenge. You can see my rant under BEV goes on the offensive.

No, it means that Bell/SC subs aren't enough of a problem to entice them to switch with trade-in programs like Bell/SC had 5-6 years ago for US grey boxes.

Bell and Starchoice are not illegal in the US. They do not have a licence to offer their service there, but any US citizen watching their programming is not a criminal. Unlike the reverse in Canada.
