Macemuscle I've certainly got the component video cable with the 5 leads and set up as you describe but only get 480i resolution. In the xbox settings for video I dont get any of the selections you mention like choosing 720p / 1080i. The only selection I get is screen format size and 60hz and that's it. I got a higher res when on scrat. (the xbox 360 linked via HDMI outpots at 1080p)
Any help with the original xbox and uping its res would be appreciated.

Do you have a PAL xbox? If your from a country that uses PAL I'm pretty sure you will have to mod the xbox and hack it to display NTSC.

Yes PAL UK. What's involved in mod'ing the box. What do I need to do that, hardware, software?

It's quite a bit complicated but is easy once you know how and have all required info/files. You either need a modchip or do a softmod... There are other xbox forums you will get much more answers/info from... xboxscene.com (http://www.x-scene.com/xbox-tutorials.php?p=#0).
Here is a thread (http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?threadID=109750&tstart=0) explaining why PAL won't work. Also make sure your TV will display a NTSC signal first!

It's not the GTA, but eBay is probably your best bet.

I probably have an old set around somewhere in a box. I never throw anything out. If you can't find any around you, let me know and I'll mail 'em out to you real cheap.

I quit buying on eBay after a bad purchase, and vowed not to go back (until there is a deal I can't pass up)
