Yeah, Channel Master used to do that even in the old old days. I have a two set 300ohm coupler and on one side of the bakelite it says Model 38 and on the other side Model 46, heh.

I found one of the square Japanese Balun from my Father in Law.

He had one.

My question to you is:

How do you place that balun on a yagi 10y13s with the coax?

Can I put the balun horizontally under the boom with a try-rap or is that a no no ?

I tried the Japanese balun and I was disappointed. It gave me about the same results as the CM exterior balun.

I also tried the Philips from Wal-Mart and the same result. I was getting WVNY on my TivoHD this morning about 54 % but it is always dropping and going up.

Next step is to purchase an other 10y13s and stack it with my other one,

Right now at 10:00 pm is it worst, it going to 10 %. So it jumping from 50 % to 10 %.

I need to purchase or to make a boom or a tube to put the 2 10y13s on top of each other. I have to mount the antennas on my tower but not on top of the tower. They have to be around 30 feet high.

Yeah, it looks like all the baluns you have could be very good ones. Hows your cable ? Is it very old ?

I made the cable last fall. One end in an original connector and I crimped the other one with a regular f-connector for rg-6.

My Rg-6 is regular 60% Braid Shielded from Addison electronics here in Montreal.

It's not quad-shield.

It about 10 feet long from the balun to the CM777.

Hi Again,

I decided to open the so called Japanese Balun because I did not see an improvement in the signal and also because it is not written Made in Japan on it.

Here is the inside:

Tell me Guys if you think this is one of the Famous Japanese Balun ?

Thanks,

It does look like a quality design and build, but if it doesnt say Made In Japan on it, who knows ?

Nice photo, thanks for sharing.

Intravino it looks like the wiring is a bit bigger gauge than in the one I took apart.

Hard to tell, because its in plastic. But it looks like a very decent build.

300ohms,

Is it worth to browse the fleamarkets to try to find one made in Japan ?

Or if this did give me better results, then it is not worth it?

If you like to do that anyway, like me, then yes.

Today, I picked up an antique, never been used, clay Scottish pipe for $3. A new pipe in the tobacco store is a minimum of $20, and I needed another anyway, heh.
I also got well over $1000 worth of SLR camera lenses, in pristine condition, for my son for $42, heh.

I like fleamarkets too.

I guess now, I will search for the perfect balum.

Maybe I try to make one.

None are perfect, of course. The goal is just to get a better one, heh.

in reference to the japanese baluns a couple of people mentioned, are these discontinued or are the japanese still making them (so presumably in this internet age they could be ordered from japan ?)

Good point, I dont know. A lot of the old Japanese manufacturing stuff is sold off to Taiwan and China and others, and the Japanese smartly move on to newer and more profitable endeavors. I noticed that on their blank optical disk manufacturing. The good TY blank CDs and DVDs are now pretty scarce.

Gah. This whole thing is too addicting. Now I'm thinking of replacing the balun in my antenna, because I think the one I bought at home depot might be hampering my signal. (Phillips outdoor model)

How does the Philipps outdoor compare with the CM 3075 balun...

According to the links posted earlier, the Philips balun does not compare well.
Maker Model Typ. Max.
-------------- ---------------- ---- ----
Channel Master Model 3075 1.7 2.2 dB
Philips PM61009 3.0 4.7 dB
