I'm trying to figure out how I can get sound from the Sony T.V. speakers when my AVR is turned off.

My 8300HD is connected to the TV via Composite cables. I have a Digital cable running to my Sony AVR to get sound through my 5.1 setup. Sometimes I just want to listen through the T.V. speakers.

Run the red/white analogue audio cables from the SA8300HD to the TV. I assume you meant component video cables, not composite. See the following post on Cables & Connections.
