I've got 3 6131 HD receivers and can only advance about 2 days inadvance, but on my 9231 I can do 8 days, is that normal?

Yes it is normal. The 9241 is a PVR and as such it stores some IPG Data on the rive. If you add an EHD to the 6131's you will get the same Guide Data.

Thanks Pinza for the info

For some reason I always thought the 6131 went ahead 3 days, and the 9241 went ahead 7 (or 9) days...

Not being able to record another channel whilst watching something is lame IMO. I could do that with my 80's era VCR.
Yeah I know it had a seperate tuner.

So get a 9241....... Or pick up a used 9242 then you can be recording 3 HD Feeds (inc OTA) while watching 2 recordings.

I just installed an external Hard Drive on my Bell6131. PVR works fine, but now when I change channels, below the menu it always says Live. Is there any way to not record all the time. How do I turn off live TV recordings or is that not possible.

When you hook up an external drive it records continually what ever channel is live because this gives you the 'pause' and 'rewind' features.

Hi, I recently received a card to upgrade my 6100 to the 6131 which I did. I was told from a friend that I can add a usb hard drive and put it in one of the 2 usb slots in the back and use as a pvr is that possible? Also, could I play movies off of the usb hard drive when I plug it in the usb port of the receiver ? I don't want to ruin the unit right away. thanks

Read the two posts above you.

@rayzer9978, the 6131 will accept an External Hard Drive which will turn the machine into a PVR, that is correct.

You CANNOT download movies onto that drive and watch them via the 6131, once the rive is attached, the 6131 will format it and it can then only be used on the receiver, not on a PC as well.

thanks Pinza, will have to try it out, it's too bad I can't download something from PC to USB and watch like my PS3 does.

currently have 3 units......9241 and 2 6131s. All work very well with one exception....the HGTV HD channel is broken up and not watchable on one of the 6131s......the HD channel on the other 6131 and 9241 is fine. SD channel is okay on all three. No other channel, HD or SD. has a problem. Our reception is close to 100 percent. Was going to use the check switch but it says you will loose reception on one of the sat and it may reduce channels available. Reluctant to press the button again. Strange that we only have reception problems on one channel on one receiver. Any suggestions.

Yes, check the cable/connectors/connections/switch port, on that receivers line, there is a problem somewhere which is why you see that error message.

I'm trying to help a buddy get his channels back working on a 6131 receiver. I just spent 3hrs at his place, replacing connectors, cable ends, etc. He had both 82/91 working perfectly on an SW21 switch. Then out of the blue, 82 fails to come in, yet he still gets 90-95% strength on nimiq 91.

I put a DPP twin head on, thinking maybe his SW21 went bad. Exact same problem. 91 comes in full strength, 82 does nothing. The dish is solid as a rock, could not have moved.

It's not an ideal setup, I will say that. He has RG6 cabling from dish to cable box, then RG59 cable to the wall plate in the living room, then RG6 cable to the receiver. Obviously if I could swap out the RG59 section I would, but there's no way to access it.

The fact he's getting a 90+ signal tells me the RG59 isn't really causing an issue, especially since it was working fine for 3-4 years prior. I'm really out of options at this point other than to advise that perhaps his receiver is shot.

does anybody have any suggestions? Can you hard reset a 6131 like you used to be able to reset a 3100? (info/right/left) etc... or no? I'm thinking maybe there's some corruption causing this?

Just totally frustrated and baffled that I can't help him out. It's not the dish, it's not the head, it's not the cable ends.

Could the RG59 still be causing this issue even though he's getting 90+ percent on nimiq 91 and even though it did work for 3-4 years prior. Really puzzling to me.

I did multiple check switches and multiple resets (holding power button)... but is there a way to do a hard reset on this model?

Thanks in advance!

Before I scratch my head at all on this one, first one thing. Just please tell us you didn't try to use a SW21 in conjunction with a DPPLNB. First thing I would try if you've definitely been through all the cable would be to switch the lnb's to either call it that or rule that out. Seeing as you tried a dish pro one as well and of course again assuming you hooked it up one continuous line from dish to receiver odds are that rules out an lnb. Without laying eyes or hands on the situation given the information you gave there has to be something you're missing in the cabling.

Do you have a cable toner?

So stupid on my part, since he had the dish there for 4-5 years, I never even though about the neighbours tree which was about 60 ft away. It's always something i check when I first set up a dish, but amazed it never crossed my mind.

8hrs wasted today ruling things out, swapping all connectors, cable ends...

FIX: Move dish 20ft to the right! :(

Ha.....that woulda been the next thing.

Don't worry, it is not just trees that can be problematic. Not that long ago I got involved at an Apartment Building that had lost 82 degrees. Technicians had swapped out just about everything, inside.

They were still scratching their heads when I arrived. I suggested we pop onto the roof to ensure that the Dish for 82 had not moved. No it was rock solid. Then turning around it became obvious.

The new Condo next door had just grown another floor, just enough to block out 82 degrees......

The fix was to move the 90cm Dish almost 100 feet to the opposite end of the roof to clear the new Condo....
