So I will answer my own question....Yes it's working perfectly, a 5400rpm 2.5" laptop drive.

Dead silent.

Don't believe the 7200rpm only or laptop drive not working...

I bought a 1.5 TB and 2 TB WD Elements external harddrives recently.
Works perfectly even though it seems to go in idle mode when the receivers
(6131) are off. They have no fan and are very quiet. The only compaint i have is the led on the unit is extremely bright in a dark room. I plan on putting
some tape over it to get rid of this issue.:D

What would we do without electrical tape.....lol

Why are so many of these lights so damned bright.?

My Rogers Rocket Hub is like a set of Disco lights, without the tape......

I use the WD Elements drives, as well. Also rocking the tape mod on the bedroom 1TB ;)

We'd use duct tape, of course.

Had my 6131 receiver for a couple months now. Within the last couple weeks my channels, mostly HD, have been coming up with error message 015, saying the signal is not available and then begins to search for signal. Sometimes this works other times it says my satellite is unavailable. I had no issues before this. Any thoughts?

Loss of signal from dish. Could be
Loose dish moving in wind.
Tree leafing out and blocking signal.
Bad cables.
Bad switch.

Run a Check Switch.

MENU, 6, 1, 1.

See what errors it reports.

Hi all,
Here's a weird one to me. I got a new 6131 on the trade in from Bell for my 6100, and of course wanted to take advantage of the EHD feature making the 6131 a PVR. I tried two older EHD's that both run at 5400rpm and while one worked for a week or so, the power went out and I don't know if it messed up the drive or what but it stopped working as a PVR (this drive may simply be fried - it does not work any longer on my computer either...). I tried the second old EHD and it would not be set up by the 6131 (it would find it and try to format it but then fail to become a PVR.)
This weekend Future Shop had a 1.5 TB 7200 rpm EHD on sale, and since I do photography and always need these things for storage, thought what the heck and bought one. I hooked it up to my 6131 and it works perfectly.
So, two questions -
1. both the old HD's worked fine as computer devices, one still does work just fine when hooked up to my Mac, and it even says it in a format unreadable by the Mac and needs to be reformatted (which to me means the 6131 did indeed format it for a PVR, yes?) - why would it not be useful by the 6131 - and
2. Is it really the 5400 vs 7200, or is it something else in slightly older (4 year old) technology in a 1 TB drive?
Curious....

Has anyone run into this issue with the 6131.Past 2 weeks my receiver, and doesn't matter what channel, gives me error 005.I can be watching a program and it suddenly interrupts with the picture freezing. Then the error message says im watching a program my smart card isnt subscribed to.Then I have to go channel up and back to the original channel.Program resumes ok.This was happening 2 maybe 3 times a day.I called Bell for tech help.Went through the usual receiver tests and rebooting.Tried syncronizing the receiver too.Now its worse than ever.It interrups with the error message every 50 seconds or so.I called Bell again and they sent a signal to my receiver ,or some kind of download ,saying it will cure 95% of the problems described. They told me it will take up to 2 hours to rectify.2 hours later it's still the same.what now? anyone have this happen?thanks for reading.

Problems like these usually require the receiver to be removed from your account by Bell, leavibg the receiver with just the free preview channels, then they add programming back.

Not that DOES cure 95% of these issues, rest require receiver replacement.

Still many problems with this 6131.Bell never returned my call.I will call them again on this issue. However ,Another question.Let's say I decide to leave Bell for some reason. My hard drive for the 6131 has loads of movies on them.If I go with another provider, will I be able to watch them again with this hard drive on another receiver?

Hi all just just wondering,

On my 6131...according to the system info dropped signals started occurring on both my 6131 ird's on May 23rd around 9:00pm est...Ive had two dropped signals on the 24th and today on both as well.

I dont know all channels that are affected...for sure I have lost 295 WGN (SD) (Sat 91 Transponder 16)

All 82 Transponder readings are within the 75 to 80% range.

On 91 I do not have transponder(s) 16, 20 and 30....a handfull of some transponders 91 are 41 to 45%....a couple others are in the 59 to 62% and the rest are 73 to 75%

I am located on shoreline of Lake Huron and was wondering if anyone else was having similar issues or if this is possibly being caused by the positioning of this new satellite.

Check switch on both ird's come back saying fewer sats are detected then previous and under system menu the 91 sat box is red with X.

Weather the last few days has been sunny and clear..today some cloud cover moving in.

Thanks Everyone!

tobor26: Quick answer - No. The files are encrypted and are only readable by similar receivers on Bell - not even the 9XXX series.

You could offload (copy) to an HTPC using something like the Hauppauge, discussed in the HTPC forum here.

Shaun, Nimiq 6 is still in a test position at 138 West Longitude, quite a ways away from it's final location @ 91.1 so I can't see how that would cause the problems you've ran into.

Are you still having issues? There may have had in bad weather over the upload location in North York?

I haven't encountered any issues here in Winnipeg

Shaun,

The readings you listed are very poor considering your location. It would appear your dish simply needs to be re-aimed slightly.

Agreen, try re-aiming the Dish for better signal levels.

I'll check into it...nothing should have moved the dish in the last 3 days..I have been here.. it's only a small handfull of transponders that are low to mid 40's primarily everything else on 91 is low to mid 70's

Thanks to the mod who moved my post...Sorry it was in the wrong forum initially

Mid 70's is too low anyway.

Could be a wasps nest inside the LNBF.....lol It is not always the Dish that moved, also check for Line Of Sight issues.
