The 6131 connects to my network, and uses an IP address.
I think I could order tv with this link (Vu Movies)
to bad if caller id doesn't work with ethernet.

Not sure whay you would expect an Internet connection to show who is calling on a Lnd Line. They are two separate things, in my house at least.

Just received my replacement 6131 and have a question. Before I would run a cable in and out of the 6100 to the sony vcr then from the vcr to tv. Now with a hdmi direct to the tv I can't seem to get a signal to the vcr to record. I tried to run a left right video cable from the 6131 output to the vcr input but does not seem to be recording. Any suggestions?

It should be no different at all.
You do know that with an External Drive you can convert the 6131 into a Single Tuner Hd PVR, don't you.?

yes I've been reading up on the ehd. My daughter who is autistic is very set on her ways and like to record her programs on the vcr.

Understood. Well it should be exactly the same as the old 6100. I can only suggest checking the cables again.
The 6131 does not have Inputs, like the 6100 had, hopefully you did not use those.

so the 6131 output can all used at once?
Here's the FAQ on how to hook up a VCR. Perhaps you're not "tuning" the VCR to the proper input. There is no left right video cable - that's audio. You'll also need a video cable.

I am thinking he meant, Left, Right (audio) and Video.
All outputs are live all the time. Just remember you will NOT be able to play the VCR back through the 6131, which you could do with the 6100.

All is good now... ended up using the front inputs on the vcr to input the signal from the 6131. Seems the rear inputs are not working.

Glad you have it all worked out.
Check the labelling on the rear inputs - usually says something like Video 1 - make sure you're on the input, not the output. You should be able to tune to that input and see the image from the 6131 on the TV screen (assuming TV is on the VCR input) If not, glad you got an alternate.

Was looking in to buying a hard drive for my 6131 to turn it into a PVR.
Is there a particular brand I should be looking for. I have seen the Seagate External Hard drive at futureshop. They also have some sleeker smaller hard drives now.
Can I connect the 6131 to a 1Tb or 500Mb Hard Drive.
Here are the threads on the topic:

Anyone know how to remove the on screen display while pausing? If I pause the picture to read something, the HD progress bar comes on the screen and stays there making it hard to read. Alternatively, is there a way to do a frame capture to a gallery or something like that?
The only way that I have been able to overcome this in the past is to do a slow play at 1/15 speed. In that mode the progress bar goes off.

Yes, there is a way to to get a clear screen. When in pause mode, press the Skip Forward button once to advance one frame, then immediately press the Cancel button twice. If you only press Cancel once, the progress bar will eventually return. If you press it quickly twice, the bar will not return.

hi... I bought the my book essential 1tb but it's not silent enough...Kinda surprising for a low 5400rpm drive. But with such cheap plastic case doen not help.
Would a 500gb be more silent if i can find one or better can I use a 2.5 laptop drive in a docking station ?
I assume 2.5 laptop drive to be to be more silent ?

My 6131 started doing something strange a couple of days ago. If I change channels, the info bar remains on the top of the screen. It will not disappear until I press "cancel".
My 6131 did that too, so I reset the receiver and that fixed the problem. Page 11-9 in the 6131 user guide has instructions on how to reset the receiver.
