: Bell TV 6131 Discussion thread
CheapCharlie 2011-12-02, 05:43 PM I'm having a couple of issues with my 6131 I hope someone can help me with. Sorry for the long post ahead of time.
I've just noticed that none of my programs are recording. It will be in the schedule and it will show the recording red button on the guide, but I can change channels and it doesn't show the "program being recorded.........blah blah" message. I noticed this last night when I was trying to record a show and start watching it later. Usually you open up your PVR menu and the show currently being recorded is on the top. It wasn't. No evidence of it being recorded at all. No shows from my timers have been recorded since 4 days ago. This current setup has been working fine for about 4 months.
I've tried restarting the receiver, unplugging the PVR, still nothing. I can watch all my recorded shows no problem.
One other wierd thing - if a show is being "recorded" now (it shows on the guide, but it's not being recorded) and I switch to another channel, the receiver will switch back to the recording channel by itself within a couple of minutes.
Also with the PVR plugged in, the screen will go blank every couple of minutes, only for a second or two. With the PVR unplugged this deons't happen.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Nasty 2011-12-03, 04:43 PM hey guys i just added an external harddrive to my 6131... when i record a show it makes me stay on that channel.... says "your request will stop the TV recording and switch to live mode TV. Do you wish to stop recording?"
am i stuck having to watch this channel or is there a way to watch other shows while recording something on my hd receiver?
The 6131 only has 1 tuner, so you can't record one programme and watch another. What you can do is watch any other previously recorded programme while recording another. So, once you've got a selection of recorded programmes, you never need to watch live again unless you want to.
Also, what you can do is "pause live TV". That means you can set a recording for say 8PM, go to the unit at say 8:20 and start watching the programme from the beginning, skip through the commercials and by the time you catch up to "live" the hour will be over. Or if the phone rings, you can pause the programme and catch up when you're through talking (within limits).

Bman72s 2011-12-26, 09:46 AM I have had a 6131 for several months now and it works fine except for 2 instances where it has shut off for no apparent reason. Both times I had left the TV on while I was out of the house. When I came home the TV was on but the receiver was off.It was as if there was a timer set to turn it off. I was gone for 6 hours but I have no idea when this actually took place. I have never had it happen while I was watching. The only timer settings I can find are for recording and I don't use it for this so none have ever been set. Any ideas why this is happening? If I am out of the house for a long time I like to leave the TV on to give the feeling someone is home.
Pinza 2011-12-26, 10:42 AM Yes, the 6131 will auto shut down if it is not used for 3 or 4 hours, not quite sure just which is the default setting.
VuMax 2011-12-26, 02:39 PM Go to Menu / Preferences / Inactivity Standby. There you can set the inactivity delay to increments between 4 and 8 hours (default is 4). Or you can disable it altogether.
Bman72s 2011-12-26, 03:00 PM Found it! Much appreciated.
Pinza 2011-12-26, 03:06 PM Can you actually disable this in that Menu.?
VuMax 2011-12-26, 04:19 PM Yes, I've disabled it on all my receivers.
Pinza 2011-12-26, 04:52 PM Thanks. I thought it was hidden just like in the 4100's.

I've just noticed that none of my programs are recording. ...
I had the same problem with my Telus 6131. The PVR started recording again after I deleted a ton of recorded TV. One of the series that went "bye bye" had 256 episodes. Don't know if 256 is important. Anyone else have more than 256 recordings of a single series?
Freddy 2011-12-29, 11:50 PM I've noticed for some time that certain channels have audio issues (cracking or distortion sounds). I'm pretty sure it's not my Home theater since it only occurs on some channels. The worst offender is CBCNH (1564) but I've noticed it on HBO as well. Very annoying. Is anyone else having the same problem.

I am having the exact same isssues as Cheap Charlie and I have tried all the same approaches to fixingit without any success . It started a few weeks ago after I had been using the EHD for more than a month.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
davergaver 2012-01-01, 12:12 PM Hi guys,
For my bell hd 6131... when i press view to see what show is playing i have to press the cancel button every time to remove this title display (blue display at the top of the screen) is there a way to make it automatically disappear like the rest of my other 6131 receivers?
thanks
HLJ1949 2012-01-05, 11:50 PM Lately I've installed an HDMI cord from 6131 to tv. After watching a recorded program from attached pvr and switching back to live mode there is a picture from the 6131 but no audio. The only way I can re establish audio is to disconect then reconnect the hdmi cable. I do not have this problem when I use component cables. Any help would be appreciated.
Poor connection? What's the length of the cable? What's the gauge of the cable? What happens if you change channels?
Here's the HDMI issues FAQ, along with a list of things to check at the bottom:

HLJ1949 2012-01-06, 10:58 AM The cable length is 6 feet. I don't know the guage. The connection seems to be solid. (i.e. no loose connection terminal at the 6131 or tv input) After reading your material I think that the problem is with the "handshake" because when I turn the tv off and then back on everything works. I'm going to check the hdmi connection with regards to the tv (Sony 32BX32). Everything worked well with previous tv (sharp 19" lcd)

Resetting your receiver should fix this, it worked for me. See page 11-9 in user guide for resetting receiver.
fjacky 2012-01-11, 06:02 PM When the TV is off, are you able to tell if the 6131 is recording? My 5900 has a red light that pops on and my 6131 does not
