I have seen it happen but not frequently. Is the drive left on 24/7? It needs to be. I have the 6131 and drive on a UPS to prevent problems due to power dropouts.

If your taking the route of buying a new hard drive why dont you try a western didgital? I have two 6131's and use western didgital with no problems. I also use HD enclosures that are USB 3.0 and 2.0 backwards compatible. I do get the odd freeze up or glitch occassoinally - prolly just a bad sector in the drive.

It's more likely a USB bottleneck. Bad sectors are not very common on WD drives. They get mapped out automatically by the drive's firmware when they do exist.

Similar to what ScaryBob said about the USB bottle neck. I had a problem with a drive, and using a shorter cable resolved it. So using a shorter, different or higher quality USB cable might resolve the problem.

I have a nextstar CX 3.0 usb backwards compatible to 2.0 , HD enclosure - It came with a cable that can handle data transfer of speed for 3.0 so I'm sure it'll handle any thing the 2.0 throws through it - if it is a bottle neck its at the USB hub in the 6131. How ever I would imagine a shorter and thicker cable would help out in a lot of circumstances using standard 2.0 enclosures.

I must admit I was some what amazed at the fact that you could be recording an HD movie with 5.1 sound while watching a previously recorded HD movie with 5.1 sound at the same time - thats a lot of data going through that cable at the same time.

When I bought my second receiver(6131) and wester didgital HD - I bought a slightly different enclosuer, it was a Nexxtar CX USB 2.0 and E-SATA Enclosure . The receiver would not recodnize it - I switched HD's in the enclosures and still it would not recodnize from the E-SATA capable enclosure. I dont know wether or it was a faulty enclosure or not I simply returned it and bought the same one I used for ther first reciever and havent had any problems.

Hi TheClaenser, I can also attest to the fact that it will record one HD event with HD sound while watching a recorded event in HD sound. I have done it with some rugby games. Just recently the 6 Nations tournament was on Setanta HD, and was watching a recorded game while recording another at the same time, and both with full HD 5.1 sound. Was very pleased with the quality of the games both PQ and SQ. Very impressed with this little unit.:)

I have a 640 GB USB hard drive that I want to move to the 6131 so I can enable the PVR functionality.

The HDD currently has several partitions on it. I understand that everything will be lost when attaching it to the 6131, but will the set up program in the 6131 be able to handle the existing partition scheme, or should I simply remove them all first?

The only question I found on the bell support site mentioned restoring it to the original factory settings, which implies that it will NOT be able to deal with multiple existing partitions.

The 6131 should repartition and reformat the drive for it's own use. If partitions exist, it will display a prompt to confirm the action.

Hi All, I just picked up a 6131 recently and installed a LaCie 750GB HD; so far so good!

I've tried searching, but couldn't find the answers I was looking for:

I was wondering if there is a way to search a recording by time, instead of using FF or RW?

Also, the record your show from anywhere is not available for use with the 6131 right?

Finally, what's the ethernet connection on the back of the box used for?

Thanks!

I have a new 6131. I plugged it in and activated it and did the usual downloaded the program guide then asked if I wanted to format my EHD. The receiver worked for one day. The next time It would not turn on with either the Logitech remote or the remote that was with the receiver. After waiting 10 minutes the receiver came on but turned off the TV. I used the TV remote to get it back on and when I pressed the guide button it showed on the screen but would not let me change the channel number or go up or down. Then it turned itself off for about 5 mins then when it came back up the corner viewing screen was black but had audio. I took the receiver and hooked it up to 2 other tv's and worked fine. This is the second one I received from Bell. I thought it was the line but have done some trouble shooting and changed cables and power supply. Right now I have an old receiver/PVR hooked up that is working fine. The cable does come from a splitter and I have metered it and all is good. This just started one night when I turned the receivers off ??????????????????????

dogsmember Sounds like you may have the IR interference issue discussed in the following thread: Do you have an LCD TV? The recommended procedures to eliminate the issue are discussed in that thread.

The cable does come from a splitter

Well if it is a splitter this will create problems for you, splitters should not be used at all on a normal home installation. For multiple receivers you need a multiswitch.

Thanks Pinza. I must correct myself it does come from a Multi Switch. There is another connection box before it enters into the Sat Rcvr. It has its own power source and to tell you the truth I do not know what purpose it serves. Maybe a ground? or could be a booster/step down for signal strength. Any thoughts

Sounds like a Power Inserter for an SW44. Have a look in the SW44 thread to understand just what equipment you have.

Sounds like it could be a switch problem, a faulty power inserter or a bad connection. I would try reseating all the connections first. Check for corroded or loose connectors. Unplug the power inserter and receiver before you do this.

I just bought a 6131 receiver and I have a couple of questions.

1) Should the inactivity standby be left on or off? It is on by default. Does it save power? Possibly prolong or decrease the life of the receiver?

2) Should updates activation be activated or disabled? For some reason mine was deactivated by default but I still receive programming updates.

Can someone recommend and EHD model that does not come with a sleep or hibernation mode, or with one that can be manually disactivated?

Sorry if I am in the wrong thread...

Hi Lefty, there is a thread called EHD problems and discussion. I think you will find some answers there. I personally have a Verbatim 1TB EHD that works great with my 6131, but there are a number of other brands listed on this site that will do the trick.

I'm using a 1 TB Seagate hard drive .

Thanks in advance !
