The differences of the remotes is the preprogrammed TV's Tuners and Aux.
It will work with the echostar receivers. The problem being if you T.V. VCR, DVD, etc aren't listed you may not get it to work with equipment.
You can look/download all the remote manuals at http://www.dishnetwork.com/support/documents/receivers/default.aspx
so you can see if you equipment is listed or supported.

You mean I can put another receiver in the living room and didn't know it? ;) Counting IR only and UHF only receivers I guess that makes 32 in one room.

The remotes for the 2700 operate all addresses (the remote is not addressable).
You can control the receiver without changing the address.
I haven't tried it on a 9242/41 though.
It would be a good multi-tool for Pinza!

A couple of questions on the 6131:

In my favourite list I have the following:
1 All channels
2 All subscribed channels
3 All HD channels
4 List 1
5 List 2
6 List 3

I am unable to modify the first three in any way. I would like to change #3 to contain only english HD channels or idealy, elimate that name and be able to utilize it as a controllable favourite list. I would like to have 4 favourite list that I can edit, rename etc. if possible.

How can I get capitals on a second word I try to put in to one of my favourites? Currently the system capitalizes the first letter of the first word but makes the first letter of the second work small even if I leave a space between the two words.

Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.

You can't edit the first three lists, You can the favorites.
What I do though is lock out the channels I don't want to appear, by first locking those channels, then hiding locked, and PPV, etc in the LOCK menu.
It's amazing how that can reduce the monthly bill, out of sight out of mind.

Got a 6131, hooked up an EHD (WD 1TB Blue w/Nexstar case) and plugged in. I went through the formatting etc. Everything seems to be in order. I open the guide and press record on a show that is on later and then run some errands. I come back to not find any show in 'my recording' menu, but does show up in the 'scheduled' menu. The 6131 or EHD didnt shut down or fall sleep or anything. Is the 'Timer' button the same as a record button? I know this shouldnt be this hard but it is so frustrating.

I am having similar issues. I have a WD 750 GB passport drive plugged in and programs have missed taping and in addition, the 6131 keeps locking up when I'm just watching TV and am having to reboot quite frequently. The firmware is up to date. Does anyone else experience this or have any solution?

I have an issue similar to what TSDOGGET posted in January 18, 2010 (page 38).

I have two 6131s one one dish. I added a EHD one month ago on one (a 320GB Seagate Free Agent).

This unit in question has been working perfectly until yesterday where no signal was detected. I did a check switch, checked wires to ensure that wasn't the issue. No luck.

The other unit (without an EHD) has signal and is working normally.

Any ideas?

Swap the receivers over to narrow down where the problem is.

Dirtroad, can I use that lock feature on the "all HD" favourites tab? From your response, I am thinking that you just can't do anything with the first three favourites. I am left with only three favourites to work with and I want to set up the following as favourites:

American/Variety
Canadian
Sports/Movies
High Definition (English Only)

My old 6100 gave me more options under "favourites" than this 6131.

When you set up your locks as I mentioned, it automatically removes them from all channel lists, Favorites, All Channel, Etc.

Unfortunately, the firmware only allows capitalization of the first letter of the first word. This applies to renaming recordings as well.

Thanks Dirtroad and VuMax for your replies. I locked channels last night and it worked like a charm. Now I have three favourite list that I can use that don;t include HD channels.

Did you figure yours out yet? My 6131 still doesnt record. It only sets a timer and nothing ends up in 'my recordings'. Nothing is recording and when i try to pause and rewind it, it stalls and goes forward to Live tv. From what I read my EHD and case is fine but maybe I should experiment with others.

I have to unhook my 6131 for a few days or longer while doing some minor construction, any one know how long i can have it unhooked before i start losing my channels? Thanks.

I had a 2700 disconnected for 2 weeks, and when I connected it all channels were still available, but other times I have had units out of the stream for less than a week and they lost channels.
If you do lose the channels, just call Bell and they will send a "hit" to reauthorize the unit, it only takes a few minutes, I have had to do this with units that have not even been out of the stream.

Correct me if I am worng, but I understand that with the 6131, you cannot watch one program on the TV while taping another. Is that true? If this is indeed the case, then the only use for the EDR would be to tape a show when you are not watching TV.
