: Bell TV 6131 Discussion thread
Pinza 2010-07-09, 01:35 PM No, it is a unique number for each PPV event or movie, to the best of my knowledge. Pretty sure the Guide Data is just a straight download from the Sats. Bell get this wrong too often to even contemplate having it interactive in some way with the Card. Well in my opinion anyway.
I order all my PPV via the Internet, so easy and they show up on all my receivers, not just the one you use the Remote on.
abbydarren 2010-07-13, 03:24 PM I have purchased a Seagate Expansion External Hard Drive for my Bell HD 6131 receiver, i got it home and hooked it up to receiver and plugged into outlet, when i turned the receiver on it asked me if i wanted to format the software which i did, after doing it's thing it turned back on and everything works great, i can pause live TV and have 65 recordable HD hours and 488 SD hours. so over-all i am extremely satisfied. My question would be is there anything specific i should be doing as far as turning receiver off, turning hard drive off (if so how do i do that as the light always stays on)
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Pinza 2010-07-13, 08:22 PM I believe it is advised that the EHD runs all the time. The Guide Data will be stored on it and will give you 9 days of Guide Data I think.
As for the light, I find black electrical tape works wonders.....
abbydarren 2010-07-13, 08:33 PM Ok, just didn't know if it would hurt the receiver, i could care a less about the light, and your right about the guide, 9 days!!
By the way, thanks for the response
Panache70 2010-07-13, 09:10 PM What model Seagate did you get? Price? Would love to know what you think about the noise levels coming from the EHD since it is spinning all the time.
im sure the answers to my questions i have could be found in the previous 50 pages.. i skimmed a couple and had no luck so... guess i'll just have to ask again and hope everyone is ok with it..
ive got the 6131 with a external hd hooked up to it
questions:
1.if i mute my tv does it mute on the recorded copy too?
2. if i turn my tv off does it stop recording and do i have to have my tv on when its recording.
hope you guys can help me out
thanks again!
dsslearn 2010-07-14, 01:46 PM NO to both. The TV volume or power doesn't affect the receiver.
abbydarren 2010-07-14, 05:33 PM I paid 79$ at future shop, and as far as i can tell it doesn't make a sound, having it now for 24 hrs i have recorded 3 separate programs and paused live TV a bunch and everything is perfect .(knock on wood)
excellent... thanks for the help guys!
stern_howie 2010-07-21, 02:47 PM can a 6131 output via s-video or r-w-y (composite) at the same time as component or HDMI? I have an older Slingbox I need to connect to it.
thanks
ScaryBob 2010-07-21, 03:07 PM Yes, all outputs are active all the time. There is no s-video output on the 6131, just composite, component and HDMI.
Edit: The 6131 also has s-video.
stern_howie 2010-07-21, 03:13 PM thanks...
http://support.bell.ca/Documents/TV/UserGuide/Receiver/6131/6131_4_Ch2_eng(en).pdf
page 6 shows SVideo. I'm good tho tx.
ScaryBob 2010-07-21, 03:17 PM You are correct. I just checked my 6131 and there is an s-video port I didn't know was there.
cptcarter 2010-07-24, 02:43 PM Hey,
I have a 6131 receiver and love it but am having issues with both TMN and Super Channel interactive channels. If someone has a 6131 and a sub to either TMN or Superchannel, if you could try this for me and verify for me I would really appreciate it!
If I pick a movie title and press the "record" button on the remote it doesn't work. Which isn't that big of a deal but when I hit the schedule (showtimes) for that movie, if it's on the TMN channels other then HBO it won't give me any HD showtimes all are in SD however about a month ago, I got both SD and HD times. When I go to the Superchannel interactive, the HD showtimes do show up but when I go and record it, it tells me there is a problem setting a reminder.
I have tried contacting Bell, TMN and SuperChannel. To date, Superchannel are the only ones that replied back but haven't come to a resolution yet. I'm still waiting on BELL and TMN.
Pinza 2010-07-25, 09:55 AM You do have an EHD connected to the 6131 don't you.?
hsantos 2010-07-28, 11:37 PM Whenever I schedule a show to be recorded I can select how much time
to start before and after the show.
Once I set the record time after the end of show to be 60 minutes.
But since then, im unable to reset back to the 3 minutes defaults.
I try selecting use has system default but it doesnt keep the setting.
How can I fix this
Thanks
Helder

Did you program in the new frequency of whatever is programmed in the new remote? My 9241 is a 6.4, but I haven't tried to pair it with my 6131.

Ensure that the Remote Address is the same as your old remote.
Panache70 2010-08-08, 05:56 PM Just bought a WD 1TB hard drive at BB.
I first hooked it up to my PC to remove the Sleep mode.
Afterwards, I set it up on my 6131. It recognized it and gave me the usual "The attached USB drive is being formatted".
When I did this with my 1TB HP simplesave on a 9242, it took all of 5-10 minutes to format and reboot the receiver.
This time, with the WD and the 6131 it has been over 20 minutes and still nothing. It just sits on the same screen all the time saying that it is formatting.
I did a "Power Button reboot" on the 6131 and again... over 20 minutes still waiting.
Is this normal? I assumed if it was 5-10 minutes on a 9242, it would be the same on a 6131...
Any ideas?
Thanks
