have you tried it on a computer to check out the drive itself? to rule out the receiver.... what is the warranty on the Lacie?

Hi,
Is it possible to copy recordings from one drive to another? I upgraded the external drive I use with my 6131 but would like to keep the pvr recordings I have on the old drive, preferably to move them to the new one. From what I've seen in other posts, people seem to be saying it can be done but haven't found any detailed instructions... can anybody help here?

(edit: nevermind, found the answer in another thread

avgjoe, where did you get your answer? I've searched to find a solution and I couldn't find it. Thanks for the reply.

'Jarmster', is your Lacie model the 'Neil Poulton' model (1 TB)? It appears that this is a very popular EHD for PVR use. I plan on picking one up this w/e to use with a 2nd receiver. I'm using a Verbatim 1 TB w/my first receiver. Anyhoos, I'm glad that your drive's working for you again..

I am looking to buy a 500 gb hard drive for my bell 6131 and I was wondering if when you turn it into a pvr can you watch a tv show and record something on another channel at the same time. If not, Is there anyway of making this possible

Thanks

The 6131 is a single Tuner reciever so the best you can do is to watch a pre-recorded show while recording another.

If you want to be able to record one channel while watching another live show, you need a Dual Tuner Reciever, 9200/9241/9242.

Benito - it was one of the threads in the bell 6131 owners section... basically the answer is to hook it up to a Linux system (or boot your windows system using a linux bootCD) and copy all the folders from old drive to the new one - worked fine here.

Here's how:
1. Format the new drive on the 6131.
2. Connect both drives to a Linux system.
3. Copy the programs (very large numbered files) from the subdirectory on the data partitions on the old drive to the same subdirectory on new drive.

Caveat: I have yet to try this with a 6131 drive but it works with EHDs on 92xx PVRs.

With my 2 old Bell Receivers, when I turn on the Receivers the guide is immediately available but with my new 6131 Receiver the TV opens at the last viewed channel and it takes a few minutes for the guide to be available.
Is this normal for the 6131 Receiver or do I need to "adjust something" ? Thanks for any input.

I have discovered that turning the 6131 Receiver off at night and when turning it on the next evening, the guide is not immediately available and it takes several minutes before it is available.
However,if the receiver is turned on the next morning the guide is immediately available.
Therefore, it appears to be a question of how long the receiver has been turned off that determines if the guide is immediately available.
Can anyone clarify how long the receiver should still have the guide immediately available ?

well after some playing around i figured out that the Lacie drive isn't the problem it was the usb bridge or the actual enclosure. I just bought a replacement enclosure and put the 750 gb lacie drive (hatachi when i got it opened) into it and all is well. All my recorded shows are still there and working and the pauseand record live tv functions again.
I talked to a few guys that claim 9 times outa 10, its the enclosure. So if you bought the lacie drive and it stops working, try a new enclosure first. save you a couple bucks.

I have a 6131 with a 750GB Seagate EHD, 7200RPM, velocity enclosure. The EHD is powered by the AC outlet.
When im watching a recorded show and hit the yellow skip forward button rapdily to skip past commercials the screen sometimes goes black and I cant watch any TV. (This is happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks). I then have to reset the receiver from the front panel.

Is this a common problem or is this issue specific to my unit/EHD?

Thanks

Just another piece of information, I only have 5 shows recorded on the EHD so its nowhere near full.

Thanks.

I have a 6131 and I have had a Seagate SATA2/7200RPM/32MB Cache drive in a Vantec NexStar CX NST-300SU-BK (http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=021590&cid=HDE.700) and haven't had any issues at all. If anything, the guide actually seems a little quicker to respond when going past 3 days of info. Playback works perfectly whether it was recorded previously or using paused/rewound footage from live tv. I'm going to slap a few more of these together for friends I know that want to use their 6131's PVR functions.

The Vantec NexStar CX USB enclosures seem to work very well with Bell receivers and PVRs. WD AADS and AARS series drives up to 1.5TB work very well in these enclosures. (Up to 1TB only for the 6131.) I've also used a 2.5" Seagate 7200 RPM drive in a 2.5" Vantec NexStar CX with a 6131.

I've never seen this. You might want to try a different enclosure. The Vantec CX series work well and are reasonably priced.

hit the yellow skip forward button rapdily

Try doing it a little slower.!

Might seem obvious but if you are doing it too rapidly, that might be confusing the Receiver.

Hi all,

I recently got my 6131 and it's all set up and working with an iomega 500gb external hard drive. I'm quite happy, but I'm wondering about the HD quality. Right now I just have the basic HD channels included in every digital package, and I do see a significant difference between the SD and HD channels, but the HD doesn't seem as nice as it did the last time I had HD FTA. Is it possible that the HD FTA receiver I had was better at rendering the HD picture? At that time I also had a only slightly smaller tv (now i have a 37" whereas before i had a 32"), but I find it a hard pill to swallow that only 5 extra inches would make this sort of impact.

Perhaps there's some settings on the 6131 that I'm missing out on that can help to optimize my viewing experience. I have played with my TV and I don't think that it is the problem, as it shows blu-rays spectacularly (I do know that blu-rays are higher definition than the satellite, but like i said, the quality of my FTA set up on my old TV seemed better than this--not that it's bad, i was just wondering).

Well thanks in advance for any help you can provide, I'll check back soon.

Check the settings in the 6131 Menu, make sure you are using 720p, I believe the 6131 ships with it set to 480p as the default.

How are you connected to the TV.?

well as Pinza has mentioned, Bell only uses 720P, and if you were getting Dish with your FTA, you were most likely watching 1080P, so there would be a difference there.
