No, pretty sure it is IR.

Just checked
page 2-2 of the User Guide, it is IR.

Can someone tell me if the 6131 has a UHF remote? I need to store it behind the TV out of line-of-sight
It's IR. 6131 is not UHF capable. You could get a Dish Network IR/UHF Remote upgrade kit. Makes it UHF capable and comes with a UHF remote. The Source sells it for $80 but you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

I have a tucked 6131 under a dresser and not in line of sight for the remote. I have no problems using the remote. I might be getting some good reflections from various objects, but I suggest you see if it works for you with just plain, old IR.

Hello to all the 6131er's. This probably has been asked before, but how do I watch one channel and record another with one 6131?

You can't. Period.

Unless you're thinking of watching something recorded and recording something at the same time

As stated, it does not. An IR repeater is one option. The Dish UHF upgrade kit is another. Some Harmony and other brands of remotes have UHF to IR remote repeater options as well. I would try placing it where direct or reflected IR signals might get to it though.

It's been asked and answered many times. Watching a recorded show on the external drive is the best option while recording. You can also watch a show while it is being recorded. To watch/record two shows simultaneously, a second receiver or a dual tuner PVR (9241) is required.

Anyone have more info on this? Don't need the UHF remote, I have have some left over from 9200/9242. Is there just a UHF receiver add-on?

If you can find someone just selling the UHF converter box without the remote, you might save a few dollars. I've always seen the full kit sold together.

Or you could go with an X10 POWERMID Remote Control Extender Kit PM5900. You just use the same IR remote you have now. This is more of a solution if you had the receiver in another room, but it'll still work if you are keeping the receiver in the same room, just out of sight.

Having the 6131/6141 models IR only was a stupid way to go for these HD receivers, 90% of all Commercial Installations want the receiver hidden above a drop ceiling and this cannot be achieved straight out of the box. Luckily I still know where to get 6100's.....lol

The IR emitters in these kits only work with the supplied remote, not other Bell/Dish remotes.

Wrong. The IR emitters communicate with the receivers, not the remotes. The UHF antenna connected to the base device communicates with other UHF Pro remotes. This devices converts the UHF signals to IR, which are sent to the receiver. Therefore if you have another UHF Pro remote, it will work with just the UHF convertor box.

Hi guys, finally registered to post after lurking off and on for a few months...

I'm having an issue (I think) with my BEV HD 6131 reciever... After connecting an external hdd and letting it format and reboot the 6131 receiver, I'm sure the signal quality is lower. When it went through the 5steps could it have changed something like another sattelite or something? Unhooking the hdd and going through the whole reboot and set up again (without the hdd) still has the degraded picture.
A google search doesn't come up with anything on this. Any ideas? Also, does running the receiver as a pvr run the signal through all the cabling or does the identical signla path get followed when going to the tv, with only a "gateway" to pas through? How much video compression gets done when the "PVR" is recording? Thanks...

There should be no difference in the quality of picture with or without an EHD.

There was a sticky on how to perform diagnostics on and reformat the hard drive. Can't find it now. I found these in my archives. Not sure if they all work but the format should. It will take about 2 hours. Note that some of these procedures will reset all settings and/or erase programming and timers.

HDD Diagnostic tests:

Short Test:
Press Menu -> 6 -> 3 -> Info -> Browse -> Theme -> Pause -> 1

Long Test:
Press Menu -> 6 -> 3 -> Info -> Browse -> Theme -> Pause -> 2

VCO Diagnostic tests:
Press Menu -> 6 -> 3 -> Info -> Browse -> Theme -> Pause -> 9

Format HDD:
Press Menu, 6, 3.
Within 5 seconds press Info, Browse, Theme.
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Then press Play, Play, Recall and it will reformat the drive. Sometimes it will take multiple attempts to get the notification message up.

Reinitializing HDD:
Press Menu, 6, 3.
Within 5 seconds press Info, Browse, Theme.
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Then press the Stop button.
A screen will appear telling you that you have re initilized the hard drive.
Hold the power button on the receiver until the read record light appears.

You could also try this (I usually try this first.)

Clearing NVRAM:
Master Reset Procedure
· Turn ON your receiver.
· Press "Menu" - "6" - "1".
· Press "Info" - "Browse" - "Theme".
· Press "TV / Video" and then the receiver's front power button until it resets.
Hi Bob,

Is this master reset a sequence for INFO-BROWSE-THEMES or all 3 at once?

Does the receiver respond after any/all button pushes or does it just respond after the last command.

thx

6131 replaced the 6141, it lacks the OTA tuner.

I have a 6131 and an EHD (external hard drive). Most of the time it works fine and I have none of the odd side effects that I've read about in the EHD/6131/6141/PVR threads. What I do have is infrequent (1 - 8 weeks between occurrences) loss of connectivity between the 6131 and the EHD. The symptom is that the receiver displays a message indicating that I have to call in or attach an EHD in order to use PVR features. The message is displayed if I try to use any PVR features (guide, skip back, ...). All that I have to do to clear this up is to unplug the 6131 for a few seconds and then plug it back in. The EHD and 6131 sync up again and everything that was on the EHD is still there and all of my timers are still set.
I've never had an issue while watching live TV or anything off of the EHD. The 6131 just seems to lose connectivity with the EHD while it is not in use. I suspect the 6131 is the troublemaker because disconnecting&connecting the cable between the two causes a 6131 reset but does not restore the PVR features. Front button press and hold on the 6131 doesn't work either. The only thing that seems to work is to unplug the 6131.
Most of the other posts that I've read seem to have issues with the EHD after loss of connectivity, but I don't so I thought I'd post and see if anyone has encountered the same loss of connectivity problem that I described above.

I had the exact same issue. The problem seems to be related to the compatibility of your specific hard drive. I replaced the 2 year old 500 GB Samsung drive in my enclosure with a current Western Digital 1TB (Green) drive and the problem has not occurred even once since the change...

Hello All! Quick question...I have searched high and low and haven't seen any posts really regarding this so hopefully you can help me out.

I have a 6131, and the Caller ID doesn't work when I am using HDMI...as soon as I switch over to RCA its fine. My dad has a 6141 and his receiver is the same? Is this normal? I've scowered through all the settings in the receiver but can't really find anything that would corrolate with the Caller ID not working on HDMI...

Also, its saying i am on V167...is that the latest?

Thanks in advance!
