: Bell TV 6131 Discussion thread
HT gearhead 2010-01-13, 09:28 AM Well so far so good. My 6131 and Comstar 250GB EHD have been working flawlessly since Dec 28. 99 bucks at FS. No green pixels, hums, pops or corrupt files yet. I'm running all HDMI. Software v167. The EHD has been left on 24/7 since the day I hooked it up to the IRD. I'll give the 1TB Netdisk a try next and see what happens.
Trademaster 2010-01-15, 12:47 AM Pinza or somebody else what are good external hard drives i can use????? will all of them work?

sleepyninja 2010-01-17, 04:18 PM Using a Verbatim 1 TB EHD (approx 130 hrs recording cap) w/great success...formatted easily, only slightly warm to touch (about the same as the 6131 receiver when it's in idle), quiet...left on 24/7 (have only had it for a week). One feature that sets the Verbatim apart from the other brands is the 3-year warranty. A 1-year warranty is the norm (2-years less common).
tsdoggett 2010-01-18, 08:45 PM I have had my 6131 for about a month now everything was working perfectly, until Saturday. It now shows no signal, when I go into the setup there bar along the bottom is at 0%. I moved my 6100 to the same spot and used all of the same connections and I get signals in the 90 to 100% range. Does any one have any suggestion on what I might try to recover my 6131 so i can start using the PVR functionality again.
Pinza 2010-01-18, 10:05 PM Well if the 6100 works on the cable and the 6131 shows no signal, it sounds like the 6131 is dead. Can you try the 6131 at the 6100's normal location.?
Trademaster 2010-01-19, 03:09 AM ^^^were did u buy it? looing for a good 1TB drive
StevieNB 2010-01-19, 02:21 PM I have the same problem as TimL. If I set a one-time timer on my 6131, it works fine. If I set a daily or weekly timer the reciever will turn on and tune in the correct channel once but never again. The event is still listed in the events list but the receiver will not turn on for the event.
Heeeelp. This stinks.
tsdoggett 2010-01-19, 04:35 PM That was my fear it doesn't work in the other location either.
Thanks for the advice.

dosborne 2010-01-19, 04:38 PM Bed sure to try (re)running the check switch test, but it does sound like it may have failed.

Trademaster, if you're referring to my comments regarding the Verbatim 1 TB hard drive, it's avail @ Staples (currently on sale for $130).
Trademaster 2010-01-20, 07:51 PM ^^^thanks
$130 is a bit steep was looking for something around $99-$110
4n2t0 2010-01-21, 08:47 PM $130 does sound steep! $160 (6131) + $130 (HD) = 9241 on Ebay/Kijiji.
4n2t0 2010-01-21, 08:57 PM I've tried both settings back and fourth but could not see any difference between the two formats. I ended up sticking with 1080i since it must be better, it's a bigger number than 720. ;)

Not exactly. Most people don't understand how interlaced signals work, so it can be confusing.
1080i "flickers" (For lack of a better description) 540 lines back and forth (1 half of the total image at a time) faster than the eye can perceive. 720p produces 720 lines at all times. If I could capture a 1080i image with a camera you would only see half of the total image at any given time, like the spacing between your fingers when you spread them. Using that same camera if I took a picture of the 720p signal you would always see the complete image.
So really it's 540 lines (1080i) vs 720 lines (720p). Now which number is bigger? lol
Trademaster 2010-01-22, 03:32 AM $130 does sound steep! $160 (6131) + $130 (HD) = 9241 on Ebay/Kijiji.
I bought my 6131 for $99 +$11 tax for a total of $111 and got $100 credit back!!!!
VuMax 2010-01-22, 10:37 AM 4n2t0,
Scrooloose knows very well how it works. He was joking with the bigger number comment, hence the winking smilie at the end.
scrooloose 2010-01-22, 11:28 AM lol, I stand by what I said, 1080 is to a bigger number than 720 ;)

sleepyninja 2010-01-25, 05:57 PM Has anyone had any success using a 1.5 TB EHD w/the 6131? Please mention brand, model, & rpm speed, thanks. I'm considering the Iomega Prestige as it's currently the lowest priced brand name 7200 rpm drive I've come across ($160 @ F/S). Unfortunately, it only has a 1 year warranty. Most Western Digitals (which I prefer) use a 5400 rpm drive, which I understand is not adequate for HD capture. I'm currently using a Verbatim 1 TB w/much success (have only had it for 3 weeks tho).
4n2t0 2010-01-25, 06:25 PM WD15EADS $85 CND + NST-300S2-BK $24 CND + Tax (Those bastards get their share!)
If you have a TB already do you really need that much space, lol. I think someones addicted!

4n2t0 2010-01-25, 09:10 PM 160+ hrs of HD is enough? The delete feature is available :D
