RF adapters are available for the 6131. They are basically an RF remote with an RF receiver/IR emitter. I've seen these for sale second hand. A general purpose IR repeater will do the same thing for about the same price. Some universal learning remotes have remote IR modules but are typically more expensive.

Do you mean there's a 6131-specific RF adapter available from Bell? I did a quick Google search and didn't find anything.

I believe it's something similar to this: http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental_content/TechPortal/content/tech/equipment/ir_upgrade_kit.shtml

Bell was making them available to some that traded their 6000 receiver for a 6131 (those that needed a UHF remote). I don't know if they sell them though.

The full name is "DISH Network IR-to-UHF Pro Upgrade Kit." They work with any recent Dish/Bell receiver that uses an IR remote. The remote looks like a DishPro UHF remote, with all the PVR functions, but only works with the supplied IR transmitter.

Just bought a 6131 and want to purchase an external hard drive.

Should I go with Seagate or Western Digital? I can purchase both at Costco and they double the warranty period for most electronics.

Lots of conflicting opinions out there, not sure what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe someone here could help me because Bell can't ..... Bell quickly blames any problems on my hard drive which is 6 months old.

I have had my 6131 for 6 months with no issues, I have had an external Maxtor 500gig plugged in and working from day one. On Halloween night, the PVR went crazy and kept switching to a scheduled recording even after I would cancel it. I was dying to watch the Leafs lose again, so I had to unplug the drive to stop the problem. My guess is that this problem had something to do with the time change and the fact that I was recording a True Blood Marathon???

When I plugged it back in I had to do a restart and it works fine, however, every night my receiver is scheduled to perform updates at 3AM, every morning I wake up to a screen that says it is running a "System Integrity Check" and it should take about 10 minutes. Problem is it never stops...... I then have to reset the receiver, then reset the drive and my PVR functions normally recording scheduled events until the next update.

I have a hard time believing there is a problem with the drive as it worked fine until that update.....

What can I try, I dont have a spare drive or a second receiver to try .... do I need to run updates everynight? Will my guide still download without them?

Thanks.

There was a sticky on how to perform diagnostics on and reformat the hard drive. Can't find it now. I found these in my archives. Not sure if they all work but the format should. It will take about 2 hours. Note that some of these procedures will reset all settings and/or erase programming and timers.

HDD Diagnostic tests:

Short Test:
Press Menu -> 6 -> 3 -> Info -> Browse -> Theme -> Pause -> 1

Long Test:
Press Menu -> 6 -> 3 -> Info -> Browse -> Theme -> Pause -> 2

VCO Diagnostic tests:
Press Menu -> 6 -> 3 -> Info -> Browse -> Theme -> Pause -> 9

Format HDD:
Press Menu, 6, 3.
Within 5 seconds press Info, Browse, Theme.
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Then press Play, Play, Recall and it will reformat the drive. Sometimes it will take multiple attempts to get the notification message up.

Reinitializing HDD:
Press Menu, 6, 3.
Within 5 seconds press Info, Browse, Theme.
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Then press the Stop button.
A screen will appear telling you that you have re initilized the hard drive.
Hold the power button on the receiver until the read record light appears.

You could also try this (I usually try this first.)

Clearing NVRAM:
Master Reset Procedure
· Turn ON your receiver.
· Press "Menu" - "6" - "1".
· Press "Info" - "Browse" - "Theme".
· Press "TV / Video" and then the receiver's front power button until it resets.

Looked through the thread and could not find a definite answer. Just bought a HDTV and a 6131 (so I could post in this thread :) ). I have a 18" dish which I will call Bell to upgrade but in the mean time, could I activate the 6131 and use it as a SD PVR since I only have the 91 satellite?

Thanks

Bob

Sure you can but to avoid any possible complications with Bell TV's "Free Upgrade" offer, I would sit tight for a couple of days.

Hi all,
I have an external hard drive hooked up on my 6131 and I will soon change my power bar. So I'll have to unplug everthing (EHD and 6131)
I don't want to loose anything on my EHD and be sure to do this right.
So what would be the exact steps to do this the right way ?

Thanks

DJ Matt

There should be no problem with that.

You need to go to the My PVR section of the menu on your 6131. There will be an option to Remove PVR. Choose that option and it will ask to confirm. Once you choose yes you have about 20 seconds or so to disconnect the usb cable form the drive. It will reboot the receiver and you will now be able to power down everything. Just power up your receiver first and then power up your EHD and connect your usb cable again. The drive will be recognized and your recordings will be intact.

Did a search but couldn't find an answer. I am running HDMI from sat. rec. to TV. I have hooked a VCR up and can view whats on a tape but can't get it to record. My configuration has of now are RCA cables coming out of My 6131 sat. rec into vcr and RCA into tv(panasonic 42in plasma). When I try to record I get nothing. There has to be an easier hookup then what I am doing so I would appreciate any help. BTW I am glad I found this forum because I have already learned so much just browsing.

No, the hook up you have is the best there is really for the VCR and the 6131. It can only be the Input Channel you are recording from on the VCR, that is wrong.

I agree with Pinza. You likely don't have it on the correct input.

Can You expand on this. I have vcr button on 3. Do I need to set something on the bell remote? Thanks.
