Korak 2009-10-08, 09:06 AM Any recommendations for a quiet EHD? I have been using a couple year old 320gb Lacie but I find it too noisy for my bedroom. It has no fan in it but it makes a lot of noise when it's being worked. While watching a recording and recording something else it just clicks too loud.
I found the LaCie EHD's too loud also. So I bought a WD MyBook Essentials 500GB and it runs very quietly.

My WD 1TB is very noisy in my bedroom.
tyerant 2009-10-09, 05:44 PM I just picked up a 1TB WB My Book Essential WDBAAF0010HBK-NESN today at BB. Plugged it in, waited till it formatted and reset and all was well. Not noisy so far. I paused it for a bit and played it and it worked well.
I will keep you all posted on how it performs.
TTSpencer 2009-10-11, 09:12 AM New owner of a 6131, and new customer to Bell.
Yesterday my wife experienced large green pixelation. Last night, I noticed very fine green pixelation that were especially noticable in darker areas. Looks like a decoder artifact. The menus and guides also have visual artifacts almost as though it is not processing the 3d information correctly. A reset of the unit fixed it last night, but the problem has returned this morning.
I think I will ask Bell for a replacement as this unit isn't even two weeks old...
Zero G 2009-10-12, 06:55 PM Well I did some experimenting this weekend with EHDs. My findings are that both of my Lacie drives are too loud for the bedroom. I tried the Lacie 1TB drive, but it makes noise even when there is no activity. I transferred data from my Western Digital Elements 1TB drive to the Lacie 1TB and then decided to try that drive in the bedroom. Success at last! The Western Digital Elements is about as silent as they come. Anyone having noise concerns would do well to look at this drive.
mikalh78 2009-10-14, 02:21 PM how much space is inside to put a hard drive in it? prob no space eh?
Pinza 2009-10-14, 03:33 PM Not sure why you would want to open up a receiver and void any warranty when all you need to do, is plug in via USB......
erikt 2009-10-14, 08:26 PM Anyone tried splitting the HDMI output to drive two different TVs? I tried tonight, both with a powered 2x1 HDMI splitter as well as a passive splitter and couldn't get a signal to my amp.
Any reason why this wouldn't work? If you've got this working, what splitter did you use?

Pinza 2009-10-14, 09:21 PM Never done it with a 6131 but have done it with the 9200's several times and with several different splitters, powered and non-powered, all worked...
Not sure why you are struggling at all.
nufan 2009-10-15, 06:45 PM quick question, have a 6131 with an external drive, love it. What's the best way to set up consecutive PVR events? I have all my events set to record "new episodes" which for the most part works great, but heres two scenarios:
1) Hell's Kitchen final last tuesday was in the guide as two seperate one hour episodes. So, the end of the first episode was cut off and the start of the second episode was missed.
2) Tonight I have the office and 30 rock set to record, but they are one after the other and on the same channel. Is there any way to just have the recording keep going in between them? I suspect again it will stop after the office and resume again and cut off some from each side.
Thanks for any tips!
Pinza 2009-10-15, 06:48 PM I would imagine setting up either a manual Timer, or better yet, extend the finish time of the first episode by 60 minutes. That way you will not need the second Timer.
Saltin 2009-10-16, 07:38 PM Hi All,
I picked up a 6131 this week and set it up at home with an EHD, everything worked right away.
Later, I changed the switch the 6131 was connected to from an SW41 to an SW21, and re-ran the check switch program to detect the SW21. No issues there, however I noticed the PVR functionality no longer works.
When I press the PVR button now I get the message to visit bell.ca. Here's what I've tried so far...
- Reformatting drive from Windows, then introducing it to 6131. 6131 detects it, says it must format it, does so and then reboots. No PVR functionality on reboot (message to visit bell.ca).
- Starting receiver without EHD, then plugging EHD in to receiver. 6131 recognizes the EHD (at this point it is formatted the way the 6131 likes, so no re-formatting message, just that I need reboot). Reboot 6131, no PVR functionality... message to visit bell.ca.
The EHD is the 1TB Simple Drive (7200 RPM, externally powered). The 6131 had no issues recognizing and using it when I first set it up.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I too had purchased the 6131, along with the 1TB simpledrive. Good price, large capacity, thought I couldn't go wrong. Well, I too ran into the exact same scenerio that you just described, with the drive formatting after I 'messed' it up on the computer, and then it just doesn't seem to recognize it after that. When I first connected it, it seemed to work right, but i didn't test it out right away, I shut it off, then tried it a bit later, and no go. Could be the sleep thing really messes it up too much, or it could just be incompatible. Either way, I didn't want a drive that wasn't fully compatible (since even if I got it working it would surely fail during some season finale or something), so I returned it, and got a Seagate drive, works pretty well (the occasional glitch in audio in the recordings, don't know if it is the drive or the receiver though).
That leads me to a question if anyone else has experienced, on playback the audio occasionally cuts out for about 2-3 seconds, video unaffected. I haven't fully tested to see if I can force the problem, I wonder if it causes it when I pause or play live TV, maybe causes a glitch when I rewind or something, while it is recording another show. Some recordings don't do it at all, and some do it a few times in an hour show. Any ideas where the problem could be?
thx

So, no one here has used an HDMI splitter with the 6131?

tml4ever 2009-10-19, 09:27 PM Does anyone have this problem?
When I am changing channels there is about a 5 - 7 second delay, sometimes you can hear the audio but the screen is black.
This just started recently.
I have a 6131 V167.
jimmy1 2009-10-20, 02:32 PM TV Type: 16.9 1080P
TV setting: 16x9
Receiver: Bell 6131
Receiver settings: 720P and 16x9
The problem I am having is when I press the page down to zoom on standard definition channels nothing happens, it does not zoom.
If I am on a SD channel and press the star button (format) it changes the HD zoom only.
When I press the star button, the screen says to use the page up for HD and page down for SD
On HD channels, it works as indicated on the screen.
When I first got my receiver I was able to change the zoom on a SD station by pressing the page down or star button and i was able to change the HD zoom by pressing the page up or star button as well.
Zero G 2009-10-20, 04:33 PM I have never seen either of my HD receivers zoom an SD channel. It has always only been on HD channels for me. Both 6100 and 6131.
On my 6100 I can zoom SD channel for the HD ouput, but not for the SD ouput.
ScaryBob 2009-10-21, 01:12 AM There are actually four zoom modes. All zoom modes are retained in their respective combinations. They are:
Page Up: HD Output: HD Channel: Full set of zoom functions.
Page Up: HD Output: SD Channel: Full set of zoom functions.
Page Down: SD Output: HD Channel: Normal and full zoom functions only.
Page Down: SD Output: SD Channel: No zoom functions.
AFAIK, this is the same for all Bell HD receivers.
I have not checked all HD output resolutions. It's possible that 480i and/or 480p act differently. Zoom modes are different between 16:9, 4:3 (1) and 4:3 (2) HDTV types on the HD outputs. All new HDTVs should be set to 1080i or 720p and 16:9. Some older (plasma) wide screen TVs may require 480p. 4:3 aspect ratio HDTVs are very rare and dated.
SnooPac 2009-10-24, 03:49 AM Is there a way to have the PVR pause the channel on start, when a scheduled recording starts.
The reason is I plan to record a sports game, and possibly get home half way through the game. I dont want to get home, turn on the tv, and see that the oilers are already up by 3 or 4 on the flames, then rewind to the start. I'd like to get home and have to manually press play so I can watch it from the start without being spoiled.
Any way to do this?
Thanks
