: Bell TV 6131 Discussion thread
kandkt 2009-06-21, 07:45 PM I did just that when I phoned the tech line.I've tried pausing it...it doe not pause.Nothing happens when I press the record button, either.I have heard that some HD's are not compatible but I still find it hard to believe that since the receiver went through the motions when the HD was plugged in.
You got me stumped. The only thing I can think of is that the PVR software didn't load properly, but I don't know how to force a re-load. Hopefully tech support can help you out.
PTorres 2009-06-21, 09:00 PM Thanks kandkt,
I will keep on trying.
Tim L 2009-06-27, 01:05 AM Hey quick question,
Why is it when i set the timer for daily that it doesn't switch the channel for me?
Its a hassle -_-"
Is anyone else still waiting for their UHF remote kit for their 6131 (6000replacement)? Everythime I call - they are still back ordered.
cptcarter 2009-07-01, 02:15 PM As a new customer having ordered a 6131, do I qualify for a UHF kit?
My parents don't have an HD t.v. and don't think they will get one until their old Sony Wega (about 15 years old) dies out. Should I buy them just a 4100 or should I get them the 6131?
Pinza 2009-07-01, 02:39 PM As a new customer having ordered a 6131, do I qualify for a UHF kit?
No, the only people who "qualified" for the UHF kit would be the old 6000 receiver owners who were upgraded to the 6141/6131 by Bell TV. The reason was because the 6000 had a UHF Remote.
Should I buy them just a 4100 or should I get them the 6131?
I would get the 6131, that way they are ready when they get the HD Tv and they can also add an external hard Drive right now to turn it into a PVR.
cptcarter 2009-07-02, 10:20 PM Thanks for replying Pinza. Can I get the UHF package? Where is a good place to purchase? Thanks!
Arnprior42 2009-07-03, 07:58 PM Despite being powered via USB, the 500GB WD Passport Elite drive is working great on my 6131.. I flipped over to Bell from Cogeco (after years of having no HD), and am very happy with Bell so far..

I would not recommend using an EHD without an external power supply. Bell specs indicate the EHD must have an external power supply. My concern would be that the USB bus inside the receiver is not designed to handle the power requirements of a hard drive. It may be working fine now, but you may find down the road that your receiver fails from overloading the USB bus.
FrankL 2009-07-03, 10:34 PM I have my 6131 and an EHD (Lacie 500GB) running for about 1 month and both work quite well. The only complaint I have is the EHD continue to chatter even when the 6131 is off / standby. Does other notice their EHDs doing that? Anyway to stop the chattering?
I also have a 9242 with a 750GB Lacie EHD which does not chatter like the one attached to the 6131.
Interceptor 2009-07-04, 01:05 AM I've got a Western My book Essential 640GB EHD on my 6131. It's working fine and I got it for cheap.
I also have an Hitachi 640GB EHD connected to my 9242. It has an on-off switch which is convenient for the 9242 and it's working fine also and I got it even cheaper.

The 9242 also has an internal hard drive which is used for the guide, buffering (pause live TV), etc. The external HD is only for archiving therefore does not need to be running all the time. The 6131's EHD, on the other hand, has to handle all functions, including the guide, updates, buffering, etc., therefore it is always running.
gduong128 2009-07-07, 03:29 PM I used an EHD with USB powered for more than 6 months now and so far no issue :p

I am glad that it is working for you. Like I said, Bell specs indicate that a powered EHD is required. It may or may not be fine in the long run, but I would play it safe just in case personally.
ghoekstra 2009-07-08, 02:35 PM I have a 6131 that seems to be working great other than the audio on one specific channel. When I tune in to 955 (102.1 the Edge - Radio station out of Toronto) the audio comes out approx. 70% in the right channel and 30% in the left. It happens consistently when hooked up to my tv or my stereo, through HDMI, optical audio, and even with simple RCA connectors. Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this? Can some check? Would it be the station, my signal, my receiver?
FYI - I am using a Iomega 1tb Prestige EHD which seems to be working great.... so far
oh... and also... my personal solution to the bright blue HD light on the receiver is a couple coats with a black sharpie.... looks cleaner than black tape.
sl1982 2009-07-09, 04:34 PM Does anyone know if you hook a hard drive up to a 6141 does it allow you to watch another show while recording something? This may influence my reciever purchasing decision.
sl1982
Pinza 2009-07-09, 04:46 PM Yes you can but it is ONLY possible if you have the OTA Tuner hooked up though, as the 6141 only has 1 Sat Tuner.
The 6131, cannot even do this as it does not have the OTA Tuner.
For recording 1 show from Bell whilst watching another, also from Bell, you need a Dual Tuner receiver, the 9200, 9241 or 9242 are the HD variants.
jumpman1973 2009-07-10, 03:44 AM I am a newbie with 6131 and planning to get one soon. Does anyone know how they work for crt tv's? picture quality wise? I know on hdtv, some of the sd channels are boxed in, just wondering if they're boxed in as well for crt tv's.
Pinza 2009-07-10, 06:32 AM To remove the "Boxed In" look, just use the Format Button on the remote.
I would think the PQ would depend largely on the quality of the CRT.
Interceptor 2009-07-10, 07:18 PM When setting up the 6131 you can choose 2 different 4x3 aspects. After that use the format button if needed.
