: Bell TV 6131 Discussion thread
notdeadyet 2009-05-31, 08:43 AM When I went to buy a different and cheaper external HD for my 6131, I happen to mention it was for Bell, and he then "insisted" it wasn't a good idea not to buy the Lacie, as he had experienced many people who tried with other HDs and had problems, so I went with the Lacie, and no issiues at all.........I know there are many here who have used different HDs and had no problems, but just like you, there are MANY who have. Good Luck!!!!
kingtut 2009-05-31, 09:35 AM To clarify, you need 1 line per tuner. In this case, the 6131/6141 are single tuner units. Whether you use a SW21, SW44 or some other appropriate switch is up to you, but essentially you need a device to combine the outputs from 2 LNBs. The various switch types are covered in sticky threads.
Just hook-up 6131 with a 1T Hard Drive and both work well EXCEPT i cannot get any HD channels. I have an HD Dish with a 9242, 5900, 4100 and 3100 also hooked-up. The 4 lines in from the dish go to a SW44 and then the Sat 82 line goes to a Video Path Power Inverter. What do I require to get both HD and SD to the 6131?
scrooloose 2009-05-31, 10:47 AM A single SW44 switch can only accommodate 4 tuners total, and it sounds like you already have 5 (including the two tuner 9242)!? So you'll need to explain your current setup. What is a video path power inverter? Are you talking about the power injector that comes with the SW44 switch?

kingtut 2009-05-31, 11:00 AM Actually am only using the 9242, 5900 and 6131.
The Video Path Power Inverter has the Sat 82 cable input from the SW44 and the output goes directly to the 9242. The 9242 second line in comes from the W44 and is the Sat 91 input. This was all professionally hooked up by Expressvu when I had the HD Dish installed 2 years ago.
After having spent a little more time pondering this - can I split off the Sat 82 output from the Video Path Power Inverter having that go into a Switch, along with the Sat 91 cable than output directly to the 6131?
ie - split Sat 82 to go to 1) 9242 and 2) to a 2 input switch (the second input would be from the Sat 92). The output from this switch would then be a Sat 82/Sat 91 directly to the 6131.
If I can do this what type of switch? A SW 21?
Thanx
Pinza 2009-05-31, 11:28 AM The Video Path Power inserter should be on the Output Port #1 from the SW44 to a Tuner.
Video Path is the make of the Power Inserter and SW44.
You cannot split anything AFTER the SW44. If you require a 5th Tuner connection you need to either use 2GHz Splitters or multiswitch's BEFORE the SW44, to feed a second SW44, if you require 82 & 92 signals on the 5th Tuner.
Actually am only using the 9242, 5900 and 6131.
If this is correct, you only need to use one of the outputs from the SW44, all outputs already have BOTH 82 & 91 on them.
dosborne 2009-05-31, 01:11 PM Installing 5+ feeds is well covered in the installation forum and is not specific to the 6131

Please read/use the appropriate thread. Thanks.
kingtut 2009-05-31, 02:27 PM If all ouputs from the SW44 already have BOTH 82 and 91 on them - then why can't I get the HD signal to the 6131? I had the 5900 hooked up to this connection before I got the 6131 and the SD signal was perfect. All I did was change the receivers from the 5900 to the 6131. Am I missing something here?
scrooloose 2009-05-31, 02:41 PM It should work. Do you not get any of the channels in the 800's? If not try power cycling your receiver. If that doesn't work try moving it to another output on the SW44 switch.

golferboy1862 2009-05-31, 06:24 PM I went a bought a lacie 1Tb drive because the Simpletech was giving me the call Bell to activate the PVR function and the Lacie is giving me the same message\problem...? What's up with this receiver? Does anyone have a clear answer what I need to do?
Interceptor 2009-06-01, 02:52 AM hey, Kingtut, did you do a checkswitch on the 6131?

I'd call Bell.
ScaryBob 2009-06-01, 03:33 AM A lot of people have reported problems with the LaCie drives but the newer ones are better. Western Digital external drives are reported to work well. Others can be hit and miss but most reputable brands should work as long as they meet Bell's specs. Some of the house brands and cheaper drive cases can be a bit dicey due to failures when used 24/7. Make sure the drive and case are rated for continuous use and have a 24 hour a day duty cycle. Some don't.
Bell may need to activate the EHD feature on the 6131. It appears to be hit and miss when initially activated. A call toe Bell will get it done.
golferboy1862 2009-06-02, 12:01 PM A call to Bell, they activated the PVR feature which downloaded some receiver software and in minutes the external hard drive was up and running. Already formatted from my brother in-laws 6141 which had no problem detecting and formatting the drive.
What's the difference between a 6131 and a 6141? Visually they look identical.

Thsi thread is for discussing the 6131 only.
However, you can find comparison info here http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=98282 and in many other existing threads.
Tim L 2009-06-03, 07:57 PM I think hes saying how he has a 6131 while his brother in-laws has a 6141 which he took from them for his 6131.
arttricks 2009-06-04, 10:10 AM Hi everybody, i got a 6131 with a 500 gb external hard drive...and everything is going fine but i got a question is it possible to record on a chanel and watch another channel at the same time ,is there an option for that or is it totaly impossible??
thanks!
DrewSat 2009-06-04, 10:36 AM impossible unfortunately. You would need a dual tuner PVR such as the 9241, 9200, 9242 to do what you proposed.
VuMax 2009-06-04, 10:36 AM The 6131 has only one tuner. You would require two to do what you're asking. You can watch a previously recorded program while recording another though, as watching a recorded program does not require a tuner.
gaspr 2009-06-08, 09:25 AM Hi Guys. I am having a problem with my 6131 setup. When I turn it on it comes up with the "please stand by, downloading info etc" but it does not progress from there. I tried a hard reboot several times...still nothing. I tried a check switch and it reports that it cannot find one or more satellites...seems that it cannot find 91. No signal strength at all on 91. By clicking on save after doing the check switch, I am now able to watch HD channels at least.
What should I try next? Swap out the SW21??
dosborne 2009-06-08, 10:23 AM Follow the standard troubleshooting steps......
Bypass the switch and wire direct to each LNB to see what you get. This will tell you if your switch is bad or not. Based on the results, replace the switch or go to the next basic step.......swap cables for the LNBs.
