I have these things sitting around

Wondering if these would be good rear surrounds for my new 7.1 setup.

They are B&W DM601 bookshelf speakers.

I dont' need any of those fancy di pole bi pole design speakers?

Any pair of speakers will deliver rear surround audio. Regular bookshelf speakers will provide a direct sound, while bi-/di-pole speakers will provide a diffuse sound. It all depends on what you're looking for.

They will be more than adequate. If you are using them for rear 6-7 channels be aware that there is very little true 7.1 material out there. The majority of the time all you get from the 6-7 is matrixed sound from the 4-5 channels to halp "fill in" the rear sound stage.

They will work very well !
