WNLO

Strange that WNLO would spent money for a new tower and not just stay on WNED tower or move to WIVBs tower which they own.

Nexstar got over $46 million to give up their channel, the cost of a tower, upgrading to NTSC 3.0 etc is peanuts in comparison.

https://www.ntia.doc.gov/legacy/otia...ost_TV.html#TE

They've also partnered with Sinclair for the transition to ATSC3.0

Sinclair And Nexstar Vow To Share Spectrum To Help Next-Gen TV Transition | Deadline

None of the stations that sold spectrum are "worse off", they all made out like bandits, including the "religious" begcasters who should never have been granted spectrum, IMHO.

189 transmitters

WUTV has applied to move to old WIVB Tower

They request 800 kw but some directional.Antenna at 313m mark on tower. This is at top of the tower so reception will be similar to current WIVB.

WUTV Move to WIVB Tower Approved

So it looks like WUTV signal will be similar to WIVB current coverage area after repack and move to channel 36 next year.I speculate one Buffalo station will go to ASTC 3.0 broadcasting? WUTV,WNYO or WNLO ??

Whenever they do go to 3.0, the FCC has mandated that they must continue to cast 1.0 for at least 5 more years.

Glad WUTV is moving - that and WNLO cause to many problems as they are in the exact same direction as the CN Tower from my house and I have to turn on/off amplification depending on what channel I am watching.

ASTC 3.0

One of the Buffalo transmitters will likely go 3.0 around repack time and the others will carry the 1.0 signals.Example WNYO goes 3.0 and carrys WUTV,WNYO,WIVB and WNLO signals at 1080p HDR.WUTV does 1.0 of WUTV and WNYO.

WPXJ 1000KW Approved

WPXJ moves to rf 24 with 1000kw + 235 kw vertical too.Thats more than double their current output but they will now be adjacent to 25 in Toronto.

At my location in Stouffville, WPXJ is a 24/7 station for me already with a strong signal on 23.

Does that matter?

We have had 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44 for years.

The issue is adjacent non-colocated channels, especially when one is distant.
43 Grand Island adjacent to 44 CN Tower. HAS been a problem for some.
Same with 14 Grand Island and 15 Hamilton.

This will also come up in Montreal with 35 Mount Royal and the newly approved switch of 40 to 34 Saranac Lake which is moving to the old WPTZ tower in Peru, NY.
