WGRZ 2-2 to Disappear

It would appear Universal Sports will soon leave WGRZ 2-2 and be available as a cable channel only. Here is an article that gives that impression.

I wonder if WGRZ knows that?

Maybe now they can keep RTV. They have no more excuse that they are removing it to provide better reception for Universal Sports.

Since Universal Sports is carried by Time Warner Cable, on their digital tier, I wonder if WGRZ may consider keeping RTV and eventually moving it to 2-2, to keep another station on Time Warner? Of course it would depend on wether Time Warner would carry it, instead of Universal Sports. And then the question is, can you sell some local advertising with two Retro Channels in a depress market, like Buffalo? I can't see any Buffalo station wanting to go the expense of Mobile DTV, while the FCC will be moving them on the dial.

RTV

RTV is gone from 33-2-3 today. Just a test pattern saying it would no longer be broadcast on that channel...

Is it being replaced by something else? Or just gone?

Yes, the Nashville Network is returning, but this time to the OTA airwaves. Same logo, and with Crook and Chase. Here is the link

US Subchannel: UK TV Shows

I would like it if one of the Buffalo stations picked-up on this.

Yes, I am so looking forward to this! However, the number of subchannels stays the same. Create gets the boot.

OTA, it's a beauty way to go!

Lightbulb Bye bye 'Live Well Network'

The ABC Owned Television Stations Group today announced their digital TV subchannel, Live Well Network, was being discontinued as of January 2015.

LWN staffers received an email stating "Despite Live Well’s tremendous accomplishments in distribution and original programming, we made a strategic decision that our priority must be local content, and we want to maximize our investment in our core local news brands in the digital space." Other sources said it was a finance based decision.

Live Well Network has been around since 2009 on the eight ABC owned and operated stations. In 2010 most Belo Broadcasting stations picked it up and in 2011 Scripps Broadcasting stations did the same. Citadel Communications and Media General added LWN in 2012. At its zenith, LWN had roughly 70 affiliates and was available in 64% of US TV viewing homes.

ABC stations originally carried LWN in 720p 16:9 HDTV, but due to the negative effect on the main HD channel, they rolled back to 480i 16:9 SDTV. Most of the non ABC O&Os stations also carried it in 480i 16:9, but some stations used a 4:3 center cut while others used letterbox 4:3.

One of the daily programming staples on LWN was the CBC program 'Steven and Chris', which may explain LWN's demise.....

2 new stations are being offered in some markets by the Owner of Bounce TV. Escape TV which will be for Women, and Grit TV which will be for men. Univision stations will be the first to see them starting August 18, 2014.
