Welcome here! PRINT OR SAVE THIS POST and follow these steps before you post in the OTA Forum:
  1. Read the OTA FAQ here, which now contains over 20 great posts: OTA FAQ & Knowledge Base
  2. Download the latest Antenna Chart from here: OTA Antenna Chart/Tableau des Meilleures Antennes OTA -...
  3. Go into the Reception Results sub-forum here: OTA Reception Results
  4. Find the thread that covers your local area of Canada (the thread titles give the province first and then the local area names)
  5. In your local thread use the Search This Thread tool to the upper right beside Thread Tools and put in your city, town, or neighbourhood name, or local street names as search terms to see how others have already done
  6. Don't use threads that say Station Status in the title (they are only about the current technical and operational status of stations, not about your own local reception)
  7. Nowyou are ready to make your first post, but follow these steps:
    • Use TV Fool (or RabbitEars) to Determine Your Available OTA Stations in Canada:
      1. use your proper address and put both your city and province into the city field, OR
      2. enter your exact map coordinates at the TVFool site and wait for your results page to load
      3. your address will be kept secret - it will not show up to anyone else on your completed report
      4. after it loads, copy-and-paste the URL of your personal TVFool report to a file or clipboard for future reference
      5. read through the Reception Results thread for your area to see how others have done, in case there are local reception issues
      6. Put your city and either the neighbourhood name or the nearest major intersection or landmark in the post's title, such as: "Happytown, BC: Glad Ave & Smiley St"
      7. Paste your TVFool report's link into your first post in the appropriate reception results thread. Please do not start a new thread since all areas should be available for discussion.
    • New member posts will be moderated if they contain links, so if you post a TVFool link or any other link, your post may not appear right away, but it should appear shortly after approval by a moderator. This may take a few minutes or a few hours depending...
Once you've researched the best options for your location and you are ready to find out where to purchase the OTA gear you need, the info in the following link will tell you where to find a vendor or installer:
NOTE that if you don't follow these easy steps in your first OTA Forum posts your messages will likely be deleted and a message sent to you to follow the easy steps before posting again, so save yourself the trouble and do it right the first time. We love assisting newcomers but we also insist on respect for the time and efforts of our moderators and veteran members for their massive amount of existing information and advice contributed over the years.

Once again, PRINT OR SAVE THIS POST and follow these steps before posting in the OTA Forum. :)

I cannot stress this enough - your LOCATION is critical information in OTA Forum posts.

Enter your location (city/town, nearest major intersection) into your member user data so that it is always visible.

As an example, look to the left of this post under my own user name to see my "Location:"

Friendly reminder on quoting etiquette

Please do not quote an entire post. Rather, use only a short excerpt to help put your own message in context.
Additionally, please do not quote the post immediately preceding your own as it makes threads harder to read.
Thanks for your understanding and your co-operation.

New to the OTA Forum? *** Read this before posting! ***

Welcome, it's really easy to figure out how to get started with OTA, because your location is the key.

Every part of Canada is represented by its own thread in the OTA Forum's Reception Results sub-forum, so just check the titles carefully, find yours, and start reading! If you're in a big area like Vancouver, Montreal, or Toronto that is covered by several threads be sure to check all the thread names so that you use the correct one for your location.

Follow all the steps in Post #1 of this thread. See, it's easy! :)
