2010-2011 NHL via OTA - CBC/NBC

CBC will be televising 87 games, while NBC gets about 20 or so- once a week starting in January plus playoffs.

Here are the quotes from NHL.com:

"CBC's Hockey Night in Canada schedule includes a total of 29 all-Canadian match-ups and the game's biggest stars, with a total of 87 games during the 2010-11 season, including preseason."

"After NBC Sports launches its NHL coverage Jan. 1 with the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, the NBC NHL "Game of the Week" drops the puck on Jan. 23 at 12:30 p.m. ET. The NHL and NBC will again collaborate on flexible scheduling for NBC's regular-season dates, providing fans the most exciting match-up available. At least 13 days prior to the scheduled date, a game will be selected to broadcast on NBC. All NBC "Game of the Week" games will be broadcast on Sundays and presented in High Definition. NBC will again broadcast games in the postseason, including Games 1, 2 and 5 through 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in primetime."

The picture quality is not that great on an HDTV but I really like that Universal Sports Network that comes in as a sub-channel of WGRZ NBC.

I'm not a sports addict and I'm sick of supporting Toronto loser teams (I have a personal ban on MLSE everthing until one of their teams win something. I'm sure they're hurting from that). But I do like to flip channels and often end up watching sports.

I was surprised how watchable the Diamond League Track and Field is. My brother who is stuck with Rogers envies all the bike racing coverage Universal Sports has. I've even ended up watching table-tennis. Not into the swimming. Any red-blooded man would enjoy the volleyball coverage. I especially like the indoor volleyball, but it's not on very often.

Anyway, with the HD NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS, NCAA everything, and MLB, all on network TV, I find there is definitely enough sports to do the trick for me - especially since I have no special love for "my" teams currently. The Jays are a feel-good story this year, but that is only because our expectations were so low.

The only thing I miss is the CFL. I used to watch all four games each week. Not enough of a pull to get me to re-up with cable, though. Games can be found on Sirius radio and on the web.

For the casual sports fan, OTA has more than enough sports.

Scratch NBA from that list unless you mean the odd game on ABC as CBC will not be carrying the Raptors anymore.

Thumbs up 2010-11 NFL Sunday Lives on OTA

Checked out the 2010-11 schedule- every Sunday from 1pm to 11pm (10 hours?) NFL games will be broadcasted on CBS/FOX/NBC and in free HD! Some Thursday games too.

If that's not enough football, I don't know what is.

In the GTA that means plenty of Bills, and east teams.

Erie/Cleveland will probably show Pittsburgh/Cleveland, and Detroit..., do they have a team this year?

I remember when Bob McCowan started up Sportsline on Global circa 1980?

Basketball on CHCH - cool. I know they (CHCH execs) talked about adding sports, maybe more is coming...

Quick question, what else did Sun carry in the way of sports? There seems to be a pattern with CHCH picking up SUN's programs.

OTA brings you crystal-clear, uncompressed HDTV, no simsubbing, and the real SuperBowl commercials. You can't get all that on satellite... OR CABLE.

For those in the east end, that can pick up WHAM 13 out of Rochester, there are some sports available on there. I recently added a 5 element VHF-HI yagi from The Source, and have been getting 10 & 13 from Rochester with much better regularity.

I've seen a number of weeknight Yankees games being carried on their 13.2 subchannel in SD, and one game during Arod's run for 600 carried on the 13.1 HD channel. I haven't chacked the channel recently, but I've seen posted on here that the subchannel has been upgraded to 720p. This change may be as a result of them having the rights to multiple sports offerings.

On Sept. 11, they are supposed to be carrying college football on 13.1, while showing NFL on 13.2. The next Yankees game is on Tues. Sept. 14th vs Tampa, on 13.1.

Smile NBA on CHCH

I was watching CHCH news last night and they mentioned NBA was coming to CHCH. It includes two games on christmas day and select games the rest of the season and playoffs. I'm not a huge basketball fan but any sports on OTA is a good thing. It will be even better once they are in HD. Let's hope there will be even more OTA sports in the future.

Weekday MLB

Yankee games are coming to WNGS 67 (RF 7) - once a week - weekdays.

Currently, WNGS is very weak - you'll need a very good VHF antenna until they pump up the juice.

If there is anyone in Toronto getting WNGS reliably, please let me know and I'll do whatever you're doing.
