Thumbs up MMA Via OTA

MMA is on CBS tonight (WIVB - 4.1 Buffalo) and in beautiful HD. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers for the Strikeforce Heavyweight title. Thought I would never see MMA again after I ditched the cable- thank you free HD OTA.

Cheers!

Leaf Games on OTA

The only way to get Leaf games via OTA is CBC- every Saturday night and playoffs, ya right .
Anyways, I remember when Leaf games were on CHCH and then were on Global. But now most/all week day games are via cable/sat. The one channel that recently has come on is Leafs TV. I think it costs about $5/month- not too bad I guess. However, I say an article in the Toronto Star that Leafs TV is not profitable, that's according to C. Zilkewich (2007)- he said the channel lost 2 to 3 million.

I wonder if some regional channel- like CHCH or Global got back some weekday Leaf games, would they have a better chance at making a profit? It certainly would reach many more homes than Leafs TV, since these channels are part of basic cable/sat, and yes OTA. There are still a few OTA channels in the US that show pro sports- WGN (Chicago Cubs), WTBS (Atlanta Braves). Can the regional OTA channels turn a profit for the Leafs?

Thumbs up Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010

Gotta love NHL playoff hockey in glorious HD - CBC - channel 5.1 in TO (RF 20.1), not sure if NBC is going to show any games.

Ahhh..that explains why my DVR isn't grabbing "Jeopardy!" on CBC: Playoffs are on...

I stopped watching hockey earlier on in the season when the Leafs were really bombing.

I had to detox after the Olympics. I almost smacked my head into the wall watching the Leafs, and other NHL teams play after being spoiled with all the talented hockey brought to us in glorious HD OTA during those 2 weeks. NHL games were pretty brutal. Now with the playoffs, though not quite at the caliber of the Olympics, are at least a little more enjoyable than the regular season games.

By that logic, shouldn't you have stopped watching them about 16 years ago?? (As a Canucks die-hard, I couldn't resist that. Sorry...)

Jays Need OTA

Geeezzzz....., I wonder why the Blue Birds have no one going to the game these days...? Yes, the team traded away it's Ace, but they are not doing that bad..., could it be that they are no longer carried on OTA in Canada?

OTA is where the Jays started and now they are only on the specialty sports channels. Back in the day, they use to be on CBC and CTV. You want the biggest audience possibe, reach all fan types to keep the game alive, and get new viewers? Gotta go OTA: see NFL, NBA, NHL, Nascar, PGA, etc...,

It's ironic how CBC now carries Major League Soccer- maybe a sign the birds will eventually fly south...

I believe Rogers' ownership of the Jays has more to do with the lack of OTA channel games. CBC would likely favour televising ball games...

Certainly Olympic Hockey went a long way this past winter to furthering hockey mania. I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of issue for baseball. That, and the Jays haven't been winning. American League East is a tough division.

Return of Jays to OTA

What a joke Rogers is for adding another specialty sports channel to squeeze out more money from it's customers.

When will Rogers learn- maybe they could get more people watching the Jays via BDU if more regular people had exposure to the Jays- those people who don't pay for the specialty sports channels, but are now watching Toronto FC via OTA/CBC- I would like to compare the numbers between soccer and baseball.

I think it's high time somebody realized that some games should be available via OTA to draw in the occasional viewer who's interest can be fostered, not wipe it out by having it on high price channels.

See WGN Chicago.

Anyways, I get free HD MLB baseball via FOX once a week and usually with top teams playing, and most/all playoffs- sorry no Jays. Maybe the CRTC should step in...?

NFL Games Tonight

Two NFL games on tonight- WKBW Channel 7 (RF 38.1) has the Bills playing the Colts; WUTV - FOX 29 (RF 14.1) has the Patriots playing the Falcons- in beautiful HD and as always via OTA - no charge.
