Apple purges adult themed apps from app store

Apple is reported to have removed over 5,000 adult themed applications from its iTunes app store after consumers began complaining about the apps containing sexually suggestive material.

The purge, which appears to have begun in the last several days, has led to the removal of apps which feature photos of women in bikinis and lingerie in provocative poses.

I'm glad somebody at Apple realized how unbelievably lame those apps are.

Panasonic TH-42PE7U plasma, Toshiba HD-D3, PS3, Shaw DCX3400, Yamaha HTR-6160, Polk 6.1, Belkin PF30, Harmony 700

Agreed but once again I think Apple has stepped into it. I mean why is Playboy and SI Swimsuit apps okay but scantily clad lingerie app isn't?

Once again, Apple needs to clarify what is acceptable and what is not and WHY.

Hugh,

I think Apple has clarified that quite clearly: if it has a HUGE $ agreement involved (e.g. Playboy and SI), then it's acceptable... otherwise no.

Sheesh.

Not sure about the SI Swimsuit app, but I assume the Playboy app has some sort of age control? Maybe I'm wrong...

Both Playboy and Sports Illustrated have a Apple Adult rating. Although I find the Playboy App tamer than SI... both would really be PG.

Rogers 2PVR's, four digital terminals.
All DigNet pack, TMN,, Playboy, Hustler, TEN Network, Howard Stern and Sports Pak Sub. 2 subs Sirius,1 sub XM.

I think the real reason is that the SI and Playboy apps provide their own content, where the others are just harvesting pics from the internet that they don't own the copywrite and making money illegally

I personally am happy to see all the garbage gone
