I suppose it's too much to hope that these new boxes will come with dual frequency remotes? It's annoying to try and operate two Shaw boxes in the same room.

I don't think these boxes are capable of handling that.

lol same here, I've been holding out on getting a PVR for a long time now. Almost picked up the Pace one back before Christmas before I learned that it was garbage.

Can't wait to get my hands on this new Motorola one.

Just a quick update. The 3416 deal has officially finished but still available at 3rd party equipment resellers @ $348.00.

Still waiting for stock on the DCX 3400 series, staff have been trained on it. No further news at this time.

The DCX 3400 will come with an IR receiver with tether cord dongle like the PACE's for remote nealy everywhere but not dual frequency.

Does anyone know if the home networking capability is going to be available from Shaw with the new 3400 box?

It won't be, at least initially. Personally, I would expect it will be eventually.

@d.glen,
I really wouldn't call it "home networking" as that implies you might be able to hook it up to a computer (you can't)... It is called, simply, "multi-room".

Essentially all it does is share content and function of a single (or possibly more) PVR in your home.

Ie. You would buy one DCX3400 for your home and then buy multiple basic boxes (so long as they have MoCA) for other rooms. Each of the basic boxes will then act as if they are PVRs, being able to schedule and play recordings on/from the DCX3400.

You will have to wait to see what, if any, basic MoCA boxes Shaw deploys (could be a while, if at all)...

Buying 1 DCX3400 with a 500 Gig HDD and running lower cost units to watch recorded programs is a good way to go. Now it also depends on how low cost the other units are. I have a feeling, it won't be as low as we want it. Isn't the software they are running going to something from Microsoft (just like Telus)?

Add on: Hurry up and start selling the new DCX3400's Shaw! I simply cannot wait to give you $400, can't believe I just said that!

I'm betting MOCA functionality won't be enabled until 2011 at least. Although with the Telus product Shaw has some catching up to do...

@Bowmah,

Motorola has nothing to do with Microsoft - it is in-house and combines with the guide software that is purchased from Rovi...

Somthing tells me you won't have long to wait for the DCX!

Also, you can still add expanders to increase storage (could be very useful if multi-room is enabled!). I think BestBuy still has the 1TB expanders at $150 ($200 elsewhere) or source / make your own (it's just an external eSATA drive).

Maybe Telus was using the Microsoft software then? Just got word from a shaw rep that end of month has been pushed to next month for the DCX. That to me is too long! Now will Shaw give a discount to waiting customers who have been waiting to pay them $400?

Read Shaw Champ's post about DC3400 release:

Update: The Motorola DCX3400 arrival thread

@Bowmah,
Shaw never "officially" promissed the DCX3400 (just rumours and leaks from insiders), so I don't think they will offer any discounts due to delayed release!
