My saga continues, if anyone cares I've read every post in this thread and appreciate all the info.

So I bought a Vantec CX-NST-300SU (I did read that there were issues with it for some people, but I couldn't find the Vantec 3 NST-360 nearby) and had success connecting it to the 8300 and recorded and watched the Jays game. However when I recorded the Jays game the next night and started to watch the recording in progress, the screen was black. When I went to the game live and tried to pause it the screen went black. Other channels worked ok. Turning off the Vantec, then turning on the pvr and turning the Vantec back on was successful. But I am skeptical if this combo will work ongoing.

So my hopefully last question is, is anyone currently having success with the Vantec CX-NST-300? Should I return it and try to find the Vantec 3 NST-360 or the Thermaltake ST0005U online. Also are both of these readily available online?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Wd1003fzex + nst-360ufs

Based on the info in this thread (and elsewhere) I bought a WD1003FZEX + NST-360UFS and hooked it up on Friday. (My wife got quite the kick out of seeing the space used drop from 60+% to 7%.) However, yesterday morning and this morning we got the "external drive has been disconnected from PVR" error message. I seem to need to power cycle the enclosure in addition to the 8300HD to recover.

Any suggestions?

Looks like the problem was the NST-360UFS (USB2, Firewire & eSATA). A local retailer still had a Thermaltake EA3006 in a dusty box. This is a simple SATA to eSATA enclosure. The only problem is it included a PC adapter kit rather than a power brick. Fortunately it used the same non-standard 4 pin mini-DIN connector as the Vantec.

The drive has been operating without an issue for the past three days in the new enclosure.
