So, a couple of weeks ago I finally decided to go for the Whole Home PVR. A technician came, added MoCA filters, and my 2 PVR's were networked. It took him only 10-15 minutes.
First impressions are definitely good. Much faster response between the 2 units, than I expected it to be. Very easy to record on one, and watch it on the other.
A few things I noticed:
1. Sometimes, after recording a program, watching it and deleting it on one PVR, it still shows as being in recording mode on the other PVR. Often, it is impossible to remove it until the next reboot takes place, or I cycle power to it. Not a biggie at all, just a little confusing, but I can live with it.
2. What would be nice is to know what is recorded where. The system does not provide this type of information. Even the Home Edition app cannot differentiate which program is recorded where. I guess the only way would be to power down one PVR and see what's left in the recorded programs. And if for whatever reason (not very likely) I'd like to record the same program on both units, it is impossible. Again, not very important, as I don't see a real need for this.
3. If you are in the middle of recording a program, and watching it at the same time, you can, as always, pause it and carry on watching later. Resume works on the original unit, however if you'd like to resume on the other PVR, you will have to start from the beginning of the program. This is only while recording is still on. Once a program is fully recorded, pause and resume work fine on either unit.
Apologies if I'm only repeating known facts to the old users of the Whole Home PVR system. Maybe this will be helpful to those who are thinking of implementing it in the future.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with how it works.
