I just attached the faulty 9865 to the location the good 9865 was and the faulty is still faulty. Boot on screen for about 4 min. Then blank screen. Then nothing. No response to on/off press. Went through this twice.

I also did a level check on the HDterminal that i connected to where the faulty 9865 was originally installed.

I went to Manufacture Diag tab
Then to QAM status
For channel 312 TMN
Level: -4 dBmV
S/N 35 dB

Based on the info in your referenced link i think its a good signal.

Anything else you think i can try?

Allan

I have another update.
I thought I would see what would happen if I held the power button on the faulty 9865 while plugging it in.
I did that and kept holding it until the BOOT came up on the screen which took about 20-30 seconds. Then left go.
The BOOT stayed on the screen for about 2 minutes then the attached screens came up on the TV and the faulty 9865 displayed this on its panel.

Photos don't seem to be working. So I will describe.
9865 panel display Conn
TV screen displays:
CISCO logo at top
Then in seperate white boxes
BOX 1:
Factory Staging System Information
Version: 2.0.0.0503 Prod: Thu Mar 28 2013, 1:38:04 AM CMT

Box 2:
Host Download: Pending
Box 3:
CableCARD Download: Not Triggered
Box 4:
Previously installed software from your service provider is available for use
Press the DOWN key for 5 seconds to restart using previously installed software

(I did not press any key)

Then the screen changed after a few seconds to:
CISCO logo at top
Then in seperate white boxes
BOX 1:
Factory Staging System Information
Version: 2.0.0.0503 Prod: Thu Mar 28 2013, 1:38:04 AM CMT

Box 2:
Host Download: Pending
Box 3:
CableCARD Download: Not Triggered
Box 4:
--------------------------------------------------*
The software on this unit must be updated.
This upgrade will be performed when the network is available.

--------------------------------------------------*
(then a few seconds later . . it added)
The software on this unit is up to date
The set top will restart momentarily

Once it rebooted again. I did not hold onto the power but it basically did the exact same thing it has before. Boot on screen for 2-3 minutes then blank and nothing else happens - nothing on the 9865 panel. Power doesn't do anything.

Wondering if this means that the hard drive is the issue?

Rogers tech still scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. 2-4pm

Thanks for all your help.
Allan

Getting stuck in the boot process is not uncommon when a firmware update is pending. I've seen it happen often but usually at the -05- display. For future reference, it's not a good idea to unplug the 9865 during the boot process. It could cause serious issues if a firmware update is taking place. The exception is if it has been stuck for over an hour. I usually wait longer. Sooner is not a good idea. I've seen updates and subsequent boots take quite a long time.

It sounds like the 9865 is not coming back. See what the tech says but they typically replace boxes rather than try to diagnose them. You might do better by buying a good used 9865 than paying Rogers their asking price. Don't know if there is anyone near Ottawa that can fix them. Rogers will not repair or replace owned PVRs that are out of warranty.

Thanks ExDilbert - very frustrating. I will work on the tech to replace it as the Rogers CSR on the phone said that if a update was sent to it and that is when it 'broke' it will be replaced by Rogers. I know it won't be easy. I am also kind of on the fence with this. I already have another HDPVR (in use) and a HDTerminal I don't use anymore (using it now though!).

If they don't replace it I will probably not buy another one. This will be just more incentive to get my HD antenna installed on the roof and setup PLEX Live TV & DVR through my PLEX home theatre I already have running through the house. I would rather spend the cash on a Hauppauge or HDHomeRun DVR Tuner for my HTPC.

Will update here once the Tech is done!

@allanweinman ,

I had a similar experience with an NB2 which I own. After an update, it became almost unusable. After much wasted time spent with the CSR, Rogers sent a tech to my home. More wasted time. Tech said it could not be repaired.

Solution, I contacted the Office of the President, really pleasant gentleman called me back. He got the engineers to do a factory reset and all is well.

Except for slow, the NB2 has been trouble free for almost 2 years.
