Thought I would start a post for tips or little known tricks to get more out of your remote or 5x00 system. I have a 5800 system but assume they work for all 5x00 system remotes.
1. To quickly get a quide update, display the guide and then press the 30 sec skip ahead button once or twice to force an update. If it doesn't need an update, you will move ahead by 1 day in the guide with each press.
2. To quickly enter a program title in the search function, go to the guide and move to/hilite the program you want to search for. Press the # button and it will display the search screen with that program name.
You can also do this while viewing your list of recorded programs. Just move to a program in the list and press the # button.
Instead of scrolling thru the program guide (EPG) to your favourite program to see what's on it this week... you can just go to timers (this assumes you also record it)and scroll down to the program timer and press info. That will display that's program's info! Note - only as long as that program is listed in the epg (ie. you have to do this within the 44 hr guide limit) or you will get a 'not listed in epg' message...
Hey all, I'm trying to get my remote to control the volume on my sony receiver while it's in "sat" mode.
I've got the remote set up to control my receiver(via aux), this works fine, but I can't get the remote to control the receiver volume when in "sat" mode. It tries to change the volume on the tv instead. The manual says something about entering "222" to change this, but I can't get it to work.
It's a pita to switch over to aux every time I want to change the volume. Any ideas?
SWITCH BETWEEN TV AND DEVICE VOLUME CONTROL
When you set up the remote to control a TV, the MUTE and VOLUME buttons control the TV volume. However, if you want to use the AUX mode to control a tuner or amplifier and the device has a volume setting, you can set up the remote to control the device’s volume instead of the TV volume.
To set the remote to control the device’s volume:
1. Press and hold the AUX mode button for three seconds, and then let go of it. The AUX mode button will blink.
2. Press the POUND (#) button.
3. Press the plus (+) side of the VOLUME button.
4. Press the 0 number button.
5. Press the POUND (#) button. The AUX mode button flashes three times.
6. Press the SAT mode button.
7. Press the plus (+) and minus (-) sides of the VOLUME button.
The device’s volume changes and the AUX mode button lights instead of the TV mode button.
Sometimes I want to catch the very end of a program to see what's coming next week. Unfortunately, I often overshoot the end when fast forwarding and end up back at the playback menu. As long as the program is recorded you can hit rewind after selecting a recorded program from the program list and are in the playback menu. The program will start rewinding from the end until you press play, stop, or whatever.
Very handy and saves having to fast forward through an entire show just to see the end.

Has anybody got a code for getting a remote for a 5900 to work properly with a Panasonic TV? Whenever I hit the volume buttons, the volume goes up or down by 3 or 4 levels instead of just one.
Hi guys,
I bought a new tv and am trying to program the expressvu remote to control the tv. I think I remember that I have to press and hold certain buttons on the expressvu remote and then enter the code for the tv manufacturer.
The Bell ExpressVu installer had originally programmed my remote so that the volume control was locked to only control the volume on my RCA Home Theatre reciever. I've upgraded my home theatre system to a JVC and I cannot duplicate this volume lock. I can program the remote in AUX mode but then I cannot control the satellite. The way it was before was great because I didn't have to switch between AUX and SAT modes. If anybody can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello I recently Moved and took the 5900 Model PVR from my parents house they are on a cruise for a considerable amount of time and cannot be reached they had a Parental Code Set on the tv and i do not know what it is? i know on previous model the password is show on the Dump Screen...Is there someway i can find the password on this preticular model??
Sure, plug it into the phone line and call customer service. They will tell you how to force it to dial out then they will call you back with the password.
A hard rest will probably also clear the passwords. If you decide to call EV, make sure you plug it into the registered phone line, probably your parents'.
