The "best" package contains all the "standard" channels. Certain French channels would be a separate package as would the movie channels and the premiuum sports packages. There are fewer channels in the "better" package, but there are some extra channels you can choose, but you might be better off getting the "best" package. I'm sure this info is somewhere on their web site because I used it to choose my programming. I actually saved money choosing "best" and getting way more channels than I had before (not that I look at them anyway!) For example, I believe you can now get the superstations without subscribing to the movie channels like you had to before.
As for the 6131, it is not a PVR. You cannot record on it but if you have a DVD recorder, you could hook it up to the 6131 and record, but it won't be HD. The only other way you can record is to get the 9241 PVR. If you can get the 9242 that would be better still as it has two tuners.
Hope all this helps! Bell's web site is a little clunky getting around, but if you use the "search" button, or just browse around, you'll find what you're looking for.

Yes, you can record with a 6131 by adding an external hard drive. See this thread:

Yes, the external drive will record an exact HD copy of the original signal and you can also pause and rewind live TV.

Bell, in their infinite wisdom, has eliminated pick 'n pay altogether. You now can only supplement the 3 main packages with Add On packs of channels. The Learning/News, Movies, Variety and Sports packs each contain about a dozen channels. The French and Time Shifting Packs contain dozens of channels. The first 4 are $10 each, French is $15 and Time Shifting is $5.

All of the Add On packs except the French one are included in Best.

To compare the main packages, go to the following link:

http://www.bell.ca/Bell_TV/Packages_and_receivers#

and click the Details button for one of them, then click "See all included channels"

so just to confirm, for the 6131 if i get a external drive it can record hd quality programming and pause live tv, basically everything the 9241 does minus recording 2 shows at once

also whats a good drive to get thats cheap, like under 100 in canada,

I'm on an old package but time shifting for me means I get CBC stations from Halifax to Vancouver in SD. Ditto for other networks. In HD I get CBC Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, CTV goes from Halifax to Vancouver and a number of Global and independent stations.

Oh yeah, I also get the 5 HD networks from Boston and Seattle. I also get a HD station from NY, Chicago and LA but that may be another package.

Exactly. Just be aware that you not only can't record 2 shows at the same time, you can't record one while watching a different one live. The 6131 can only tune to 1 channel at a time, as I'm sure you're aware.
