hi all members my 3100 receivers are slow to change channel sometimes and will not go to next channel have to power off have reset by pulling card and pulling plug any suggestions
Actually the 3100 will download the Guide with the Receiver On. Just pull the Card, wait for the Sys Info Screen, then re-insert, it will reboot and download the Guide.
Bought a 3100 today that was still in a sealed plastic bag in the box. Fired it up and found two problems. It has Dishnet firmware, but there are several threads on how to fix that issue. However, the unit will not shut off with either the remote or the button on the front. The remote works everything else on the receiver except turn it off. I reprogrammed the remote several times with no luck; hard booted, and held the front switch in which reboots but does not fix it. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there a fix? Perhaps the unit is just bad.
No, I still have Dishnet software on it Pinza. According to one of the posts, if I place the receiver on transponder 13 and turn it off, the firmware will load on its own. My problem now is that I can't turn the damn receiver off with the remote or the switch on the front. Could a Bell service rep force a firmware download??
Run a "Check Switch", after that and you try to exit the screen it should ask if you have finished aiming the Dish. You say Yes, it downloads Bell Software.
Turning a Receiver OFF will only update the software, NOT download it for the first time.
Is it a genuine Bell 3100.? With the Correct S06 Smart Card.
The chances of it being Brand New and having the correct card is almost zero. If it is a real Bell Receiver, it will be a Refurbished one and should already have Bell software, although it could be an older version. Turning OFF will update it.
Pinza, It could be a refurb, not sure. The smart card begins with S04, however, Bell activated yesterday with no problem. I will try the check switch process also. Since my last post, I was playing with the remote and it actually turned off, so, I will see what happens. Thanks for all your assistance.
Pinza, you were exactly right. The Bell software downloaded and I received a "You are attempting to use a version of a smartcard which is incompatible with this receiver". So, I guess I have to contact Bell and find out if they will give me a new smartcard.
When jumping or changing between 2 stations sometimes receiver holds image of 1st station with sound from 2nd station. Turning receiver off and back on fixes problem until next time I try to jump or change between stations. Only way to cure this is to do full reset and then it is good for a day or two until it all starts over again. If I don't change channels it is ok but once it starts I either have to do a full reset or change channel, turn off receiver, turn it back on to watch that channel. Is the receiver dying or is there a fix for this?
Is it normal for a 3100 receiver to show a retrieving satellite information message on the screen when only moving 24 hours ahead on the electronic programming guide.
yes it can only store 24 hours of data, so after you go past 24 hours on the 3100 it starts to download the next day to to look at, only bad part is when you want to check whats on in the next hour you have to redownload the guide for that day your on
Can someone help me please!!! Issue with a 3100 receiver
I have a 3100 receiver and it is used all the time. We usually bring the dish upstairs to our sons room in the evening. Today when I brought it back down stairs and attached the 1st cable from the tv it was going through the transponder display the problem is that it was not hooked up to the cable from the dish it's self. It is almost as though the information is lock on the receiver and I can not get it to clear. Any ideas as to what is going on with it.
When I remove the smart card it starts off saying Satellite EV91 then switches to Default and goes through the transponders
scotsville99, with being moved around so much I think the coax connect may have come off the circuit board (inside), it is a somewhat common problem with the 3100's. See Post 24
Or the other problem may be you accidentally attached the coax to the wrong connector on the back.
Our 3100 receiver works at home, when I attempt to connect it at cottage, it can't get past the first screen looking for satellite signal. We have another receiver (4100?) that works at the cottage and at home so shouldn't be an issue with our satellite dish. Any suggestions on what to try as I can't even get to the menus. I have already tried rebooting the system with taking the card out.
