Every few weeks when I turn on the 9200, I get the standard System Info screen and I can't get to live TV. If I try to select "Done", it generates the following error message:
"You are attempting to set the remote address of the TV 1 remote to 1, which is the same address as the TV 2 remote. They MUST be different. Please change the address of your TV 1 remote and try again."
The only way I can get off this screen and begin watching TV is by doing a soft reset of the PVR.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem without doing a reset? I assume this is happening because both remotes are controlling TV 1.
Thank you for this website! I thought my receiver was toast when it popped up with this random error then wouldn't let me do anything! So after reading I fully rebooted (did the unplug thing) it came back up, then I changed the remote address(both said 1). I have my receiver in single tuner mode.
I just bought a used bell 6100 receiver it didn't come with a remote. I thought I would be able to use a remote from my bell 9242 or from my old bell 3100 or from a dishnetwork 501 receiver which is a UHF remote but none of these remotes will work.
Just "upgraded" to the 9241 from a dying 9200. Now whenever i change channels using the supplied remote (or my Harmony remote) my tv (Panasonic TH-50PZ) seems to recieve a signal to refresh its input. Cycles to black then back to HDMI input. More annoying than anything. anyway to fix this...?
Have you reprogrammed the Harmony to use the 9241.?
I would not have thought you would have needed to change anything for the Harmony to work with the 9241, with the exception that the 9241 Remote Address needed to be exactly the same as the old 9200's address.
The 9241 and 9200 use the same codes so the Harmony programming is not the issue. It could be a problem with the 9241. The 9241 does not seem to be as high quality as the 9200. Replacing it might solve the issue but that means getting a refurb and who knows what other problems. It could also simply be an incompatibility between the 9241 and the TV. What happens if component cables are used?
Here's an FAQ on HDMI issues, along with a list of things to check at the bottom. This is probably one of them. Check out item 4 first of the HDMI FAQ, and then the others if that doesn't fix it.
Thanks to all for all the help. Excellent forum.
Tried everything suggested and finally gave up and switched over to component cables. Voila! problem solved. thanks again
no?!
didn't even think of it. man, could of saved me some grief. seems to be just fine with component, think there would be much difference in quality using hdmi? i'm not so sure anymore, used to be a big fan.
The first link of post 4 discusses both - trying a different cable and CV vs HDMI.
2. Be aware that HDMI should not be considered a superior connection to component video in terms of picture quality. Properly calibrated inputs on a TV will usually look the same when using HDMI or CV.
4. Many problems are due to poor connections. Don't just check your connections, unplug the cable, clean the ends and the contacts on the components if necessary with "isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol" and if possible "reverse" the ends. Put what was at one end into the other component. Make sure that the "colours match". Red-red, Green-Green, etc. This goes for HDMI/DVI cables too. Many people have resolved issues by unplugging/replugging cables. Try a different (set of) cable(s) if you have it (them).
The 5900 I have recently stopped allowing a remote to work with it (need to use the unit itself to change channels, etc.). I can use the same remote on the 9200 and it works. I tried the 9200 remote on the 5900 but it wont work. This tells me the remote works but something is wrong with the 5900.
Any suggestions on how to fix/test the 5900? Can I get it fixed somewhere?
There is a chance the remote has had it's Remote Address Changed, or some other Glitch. Check the Remote Address on the 5900 by going into the info menu and verify the Remote Address on the remote is the same. Press and hold the SAT device button until all lights flash on then let go, then with the SAT device flashing hit the " # " twice on the remote, the number of times it flashes on is the Remotes current address, 1 to 16. With the Info menu on the screen, hit record to change/correct the address. If this doesn't work try removing and replacing the batteries after a minute. then repeat the above.
Just a note: If the remote(s) for the 9200 are a UHF PRO remote, they do note send out a IR signal and the 5900 cannot recognize the UHF PRO signal it only works with IR of UHF. But the 9200 can recognize the IR of the 5900's remote but not the UHF.
If you are struggling to get to the System Info Screen to see the current Remote Address, just pull out the Smart Card, it will go to the Sys Info Screen for you.
Hi. I finnaly got my 9241 hooked up yesterday.(thank you Pinza) Everything works great except the uhf remote. I have the antenna installed on theback of the reciever. It works in the room but if I leave that room nothing(small room)
Can someone give me some insight please on how to improve it.
Is it possible that while in the Room it is working via IR and not UHF Pro.?
Check that the antenna is in the correct port on the receiver.
I have run a length of RG6 in the past into another room 75 feet away and connected the Antenna to that and the other end of the RG6 to the Antenna port on the receiver, to make it work.
Thank you for responding Pinza. There is only one antenna port on the 9241 and that is where I plugged it in. I Hooked it to a piece of rg6 and moved it around the room. No change. Unscrewed the antenna and it worked the same as when it is plugged in. (poorly). What is the little chip at the bottom of the remote that is black one side, silver the other? If I put it on the silver it doesnt work at all. Please help.
jer23, You should be using the silver tab for UHF PRO, but you probably have the wrong UHF PRO frequency. There is a switch under the battery cover , and with a straightened paper clip or small screw driver toggle it to the other setting, then verify your remote address.
Thank you Blackdog got it. These forums are greatly apprecited.
