Every few weeks when I turn on the 9200, I get the standard System Info screen and I can't get to live TV. If I try to select "Done", it generates the following error message:
"You are attempting to set the remote address of the TV 1 remote to 1, which is the same address as the TV 2 remote. They MUST be different. Please change the address of your TV 1 remote and try again."
The only way I can get off this screen and begin watching TV is by doing a soft reset of the PVR.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem without doing a reset? I assume this is happening because both remotes are controlling TV 1.
I recently noticed my second remote had also defaulted to address 1 although I am positive that I have not changed it from the address 3 it was originally set up at. As Remote 2 has taken to gobbling batteries like no tomorrow I have gotten into the practice of taking the batteries out for extended periods of time as I seldom use this remote so I suspect that may be why the second remote defaulted to address 1. So perhaps a good solution would be to change the address of the first remote to something other than 1 as most people would tend to change the batteries in a timely matter in the primary remote as it is more likely to be used most often. I'm going to take the batteries out for a few days to test this theory.
What I don't understand however is how the address of the second remote changed to 1 on the receiver side as well. I'm 99.9% sure I've never gone in and changed the address back to 1 on the receiver side so perhaps Expressvu has been messing around a bit. Perhaps that's the reason the second remote started gobbling batteries. It would be interesting to see if other 9200 owners' remote 2 have defaulted to address 1 on both the remote and receiver as well.
I've seen a few people report/mention this after they took the last update. It seemed it was a once only occurance though. How often do you get this problem?
I wonder if it could be somehow related to a neighbour trying to setup their system.......
vmpv - setting the adddress in the receiver and setting the address in the remote are separate functions. Changing the batteries should not affect the receiver at all. The only time the error should come up is during the "programming" sequence when the receiver is trying to change codes. This only occurs on the System Info screen when the record button is pressed.
nnorgan - are you trying to run in single or dual mode? In any case, I'd always avoid remote ID 1. In my case, with multiple receivers, I never use #1 and even though I only run IR, not UHF, I set all my units to unique ID's just to be safe. Most of my remotes are IR & UHF capable but I don't install the antennas.

Exactly, which is why I'm confused as to how it was changed to address 1 on the receiver side as well as like I said am 99.99% sure I never made the change. I happened to go into the info screen and noticed both remotes set to 1 on the info screen which confuses me no end. It could have happened during the last software update but I'm still at Version 150 although an update is sure to be along any day now
Anybody else with a 9200 having the same thing happen? The only way to tell is to go into the system info screen to see what the remotes are set up as.
I do tend to toggle back and forth between single and dual mode. Would this have anything to do with it?
I have seen this issue on average about once every month since I changed my setup to run 2 HD tvs via TV 1 output. The IR remote controls the tv via component and the UHF remote controls the tv via hdmi. I am running in dual mode.
Do I have the option of selecting another remote ID other than #1 and still use the config that I detailed above?
Although I cannot confirm at the moment, I don't believe I run remote ID 1 on ANY of my units (I know most are not 1). There should not be any reason why you would have to.
Greetings to you all, and thanks for any help here.
I just got a new BEV 6141 HD Receiver and wish to activate a second remote with this receiver. Is there a way to do this ? This Receiver is in the basement and and I am hoping to be able to operate it from the sun room upstairs. ???? Question - can this be done and just how should I go about this. thank you, steam.
The 6141 supports only an IR remote, but you could probably purchase a second remote and have them both control it. The only catch is that you would need some sort of IR extender, since IR doesn't pass through walls.
The 9242 is a lot more versatile for this sort of thing - but it's more expensive and requires two satellite feeds.
Well unit #2 made it through the evening okay, fingers still crossed....
Have come across an issue, and one that is really annoying to my wife....
When using the UHF remote on TV2, if we press a button multiple times quickly or switch buttons during the process (eg, guide scrolling up/down, left/right or fast forward/rewind during playback) the INFO screen pops up as if we hit the info button, which I accussed my wife of doing the first time it happened! I reproduced it myself.
This happens to me too, I think the INFO seems to pop up when the UHF signal is just borderline. It happens about 10% of the time.
I have adjusted the antenna and have 4 different remotes in different rooms and they all seem to do it!
The info screen has also popped up when people have an LCD flat panel TV (or Compact Fluorescent lights). Proper setup of the TV or isolating it from the STB sometimes helps. See the following thread on the topic of IR interference:
It's definitely in the ExpressVu manual. I remember doing it a few years back. (If I remembered the steps, I'd tell you here, but it's been a few years - Just look in the manual.)
-----------------------------------
Okay, I just looked it up. P. 10-2 of your manual.
My UHF does not work nearly as well with the 9242 as it did with the 9200. Same remote, cabling, locations, etc, but hit and miss performance. I am going to strip the media centre down, take out the router, and run a coax to move the antenna position to see if any of this helps.
I've also noticed that the IR remote doesn't seem to work as well with the 9242, almost like the receiver misses the remote signals while it is busy thinking about something else.
For example, I can hold the remote (UHF or IR) in exactly the same spot, without moving it in any direction, and press the guide button and nothing happens. Sometimes, if I press the guide button again the guide will pop up. Hit and miss really. The 9200 was flawless with our UHF. Heck, I can change the channel on our 6100 from our backyard.
I have this issue from my bedroom. (2nd floor, and the reciever is in my main floor living room)I had to run some coax cable and put the antenna a few feet higher. (Attached it to the back of my side speaker)
It seemed to happen with a weak signal and moving the antenna closer helped.
on system info screen point remote at receiver and press and hold sat button until all buttons light up. Let go of sat button and change the address from 01 to 12 by pressing the approrate numbers. Then press # and then record.

I just got 9242 pvr and my TV was already programed into the remote. but I want the volume to work my Reciever. first let me clarify. when I used the volume on 9200 PVR remote, I could do it when in SAT mode. On The 9242 in order to adjust the volume I have to select AUX mode. With the 9200 volume worked in all modes. in other words volume ajdust the TV in all modes.

I took the 9200 PVR downstairs and I had Bell tech come and install the needed wiring. now when I had the 9200 upstairs I had it connected w/HDMI only. when hooking it up to HDTV downstairs I can not get HDMI to work. Is the HDMI cable that was supplied any good.
you need to setup the remote to control the TV on the TV button.
HDMI issue could be handshake issue. Have you tried turning things on in different order? Some people have broken there HDMI ports......this may be possible when moving and reconnecting as well.
remote works TV fine. the thing is this. 9200 remote worked the power on for TV, and volume on Aux without changing MODE. but 9242 remote you have to change modes,
When you set up the remote to control a TV, the MUTE and VOLUME buttons control the TV volume, even if your remote control is in SAT mode. However, if you want to use the AUX mode to control a tuner or amplifier that has a volume setting, you can set up the remote to control the equipment’s volume instead of the TV volume while your remote control is in SAT mode.
Control Amplifier Volume
1 Press and hold the AUX mode button for three seconds, and then let go of it. The AUX mode button will blink.
2 Press the POUND (#) button.
3 Press the plus (+) side of the VOLUME button.
4 Press the 0 number button.
5 Press the POUND (#) button.
6 Press the SAT mode button.
7 Press the plus (+) and minus (-) sides of the VOLUME button.
8 The equipment’s volume changes and the AUX mode button lights instead of the TV mode button.

I was able to resolve this problem... It was caused by using my Sony TV remote to control the PVR. For some reason, this caused the PVR to get confused about how the remote addresses were configured. Solution - don't use the TV remote to control the PVR.
