This is really just a rant as I was in FS yesterday buying Dark Knight on BDand while perusing the BD isle I noticed "Dude Where's my car" Ashtons best masterpiece to date for wait for it, wait for it
$43.99 and that was on sale! Holly heck batman how is that possible for such a terrible movie?
Yeah, you really have to wonder if they even want to sell discs sometimes. I could see someone picking it up for 6.99, maybe 9.99 on a whim. You could get TDK and 300 together for just a few dollars more.
but you're quoting pricing from a place who likes to gouge people.
For example, I bought X-Files 1 and 2 for $40 from amazon.ca, but FS is selling them for $32 for X-Files 2 and $25 for X-Files 1 (total $57, about 50% more than Amazon.ca)

Well, one good thing about HD DVD being dead is that even some of the combo discs are cheaper than the DVDs. So, if the disc is on HD DVD, I sometimes just get that for my HD fix.
Wait for boxing week sales, then FS marks them down to reasonable prices as a "sale". I stick to sub 20 dollar BDs almost exclusively with 25 being the absolute limit.
Yeah, sometimes the pricing are crazy. some really good movies are a cheaper price, for example, classics like "dirty harry" although not on Blu-ray was only selling for $6.99. I was amazed with the quality when I viewed it with my PS3 and Sony 55".
Other movies like Casino, Untouchables, etc in Blu-ray was under 15 or 20 bucks.
Conversely, I picked up Batman Begins on BD at FS for $16.99 the other day to compliment the special edition DVD package I had.
While, like most products, you have to shop around a bit or wait for deals, some of the pricing is waaaaay out of whack.
I'm just going to be selective about my BD purchases for now - until I no longer have a choice. I'm re-watching the Matrix movies on DVD on my Panasonic DMP-BD35 and they're just fine. Obviously, they could be better, but do I really want to drop $100 to replace all 4 movies I have now? For movies that I'll watch every couple of years or so? I can wait a bit for them to drop in price - like The Lord of the Rings trilogy I dropped over $150 on and can now get for about $60.
Several movies that I really want to watch on BD aren't even available yet: Forrest Gump, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars. And even when they do, I'm still going to debate whether it'll be worth spending the money all over again.
There are few new movies that I would drop money on even at DVD prices. And at BD prices where they are, it's almost like the industry is encouraging pirating. BD burners are getting more reasonably priced; it won't be long before the new Macs will be sporting BD burners - with copy software not far behind.
