Watched my very first BR DVD last night via a PS3 on my Sony XBR2 46 inch LCD. Amazing is all I can say. Sahara had a lot of desert, water & blue sky scenes, a fair number of explosions and great sound track. All in all I was very impressed.
Watched Open Season yesterday with the kids. The PQ is amazing. This is the first AVC BD that I watch and I am impressed. I can't comment too much on the soundtrack as we had the French one going which is compressed... At least on BD we get 5.1 in French whereas on regular DVD we'd get only Pro Logic...
I just watched my first blu ray movie using playstation3. It was "Saw 3". I was very impressed by the picture quality even though the movie was so full of gore and other disgusting visuals that I somewhat regretted seeing it in high def. :-) All of my future movie purchases will be on blu ray instead of normal dvd for sure.
Just picked up First Blood Rambo yesterday. A fantastic transfer for an old film. Disc is full of extras as well. AVC transfer at a healthy bitrate. Really nice. If you like this movie, it's a must own.
picked up terminator 2 and the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy the other day..
have seen both before, just threw em in for 5-10 mins to see PQ... i was blown away by hitchhiker's guide, can't wait to watch the rest, especially to see if the CG still looks as good.
as for t2, it looks really good and all, but, those so-called 'state of the art' CG we saw 12 years ago, sure look cheesy now, hahaha. similar to what would happen if they released jurassic park on next-gen, i'm sure.
Fabric threads, wood grain details, paint textures, just craziness. The picture quality blew my mind (and a few friends' minds as well). And the sounds.. I loved it.
And I could not believe it was all puppets! Jesus.. I could have sworn the thing was CG is was so good. Amazing. Anyhow, I know probably that most people don't like this style of movie (or Tim Burton), but it was a pretty fun/interesting/different movie and I enjoyed it a great deal.
Crank and BHD, and wow for both. Crank is just so much better in BD that it made the movie even better and the uncompressed 5.1 is awesome you actually feel is heart and get caught listening to yours almost.
Black Hawk Down is well, all that everyone has said, I love my setup with movies like this, makes every dollar spent worth 2
Last night popped in Open Season with my 13 year old daughter, and even she told me that she had never seen such an awesome looking movie and vibrant sound, pcm all the way what a difference the sound is so alive and full, my Missions never sounded so amazing for movies I just will have to keep 'em. If someone is debating on BD this is truly a reference .
The story is a bit boring, predictable and all, but still all in all a fun experience.
I bought U2 Rattle & Hum today. The original cinema release was a grainy B&W film, so I don't have much to say about PQ, but the DD5.1 was gorgeous. I can't wait for the PS3 firmware update so that I can try DTS6.1
