Warning: "The Island" DVD Doesn't Have DD5.1 in English (In Canada).

i just rented the island on dvd from rogers and noticed it does not have an english dolby digital track only a french dolby digital track. the movie is only 2.0 english, called rogers and they said all their island dvds were like that. can anyone else verify this.

I was about to say the same thing. It even says so right on the package. This better be a defect because it is not like this in the US version.

faulty dvd track the island dvd

i went to 2 rogers video and 3 blockbuster videos and all of them have the faulty french dolby digital track and 2.0 for english so looks like it might be widespread across canada. called a friend in the states and he said there is a dolby digital english track on it. this sucks, might be a total recall in canada for this dvd.

I assume you mean DD5.1 English is missing. DD2.0 is present, as is DD5.1 French... ???

Does it have English DTS? I saw on IMDb that the movie was DTS, but they had no technical details on the DVD.

correct, no dolby digital in english just french, english is only 2.0. and no dts track so everyone in canada can only watch the english in 2.0. unless you speak french, then you can watch the dolby digital track.

Ok but since it is printed on the package is it a defect? No. A major stupid oversight? yes.

Now what do we do?

I'm not trying to break your balls, but Dolby Digital can be DD2.0 or DD5.1, or even others like DD1.0, DD5.0... Dolby Digital doesn't mean DD5.1 (but I do know what you mean).

They wouldn't have sent ones meant for Quebec to the rest Canada would they? Does the package have French larger then English or any "interesting" features that would lead one to believe it shouldn't have come to Ontario?

Please also put your locations in your profiles, it often helps us help you. I'm assuming you are both in Ontario, but you could be in NB...

says on back of the package english dolby digital 5.1, but its really english 2.0 what gets me is how could the studio not do anything about this. universal distributed this for dreamworks and had plenty of time for a recall even before the dvd went out to retailers.honestly dont think they will do a recall for all of canada it would be to costly.

I scanned the back of the box. You can clearly see at the bottom left it says DD 2.0.

Hmmm. My case clearly says 5.1 for both english and french, yet like all of you, my disc is only 2.0 for English and 5.1 for French. Please post if you've had success (or failure) being able to return your copy on these grounds. I'm going to try probably tomorrow. Future Shop (like most/all stores) doesn't usually take back open DVDs but in this case the stuff on the disc doesn't match what's on the case... I'm hoping they'll do the right thing and take it back as defective.

Cheers,
Scott.

Who can we complain to? I mean none of these distribution sites have 'contact us' buttons.

Try mailing DVD news sites like this one:
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/

Hopefully enough attention from new sources will get a reply from the distributor.
