Planet Earth and similar documentaries

First of all, my blu-ray player is a PS3 - great system overall - versatility!!!

I have Planet Earth on Blu-Ray, and I just love this series, if not for David Attenborough alone, but also for the quality of the sound and picture. Just stunning IMO, and my HDTV is only 1080i (projection HD Toshiba). I want to purchase, or get for Xmas, the Life series by BBC also (David Attenborough one, not Oprah), as this looks fantastic from what I have seen/read.

What other series like this are there that are comparable? I watch Galapagos, and wasn't as thrilled with this one. Didn't like the narrator as much, and parts of it were dry IMO. Basically, I want recommendations on other nature/natural history programs or series that would be in the same realm as Planet Earth.

There are tons of those. I would personally recommend all IMAX titles, and warn against National Geographic releases - after seeing the appalling quality of 2 NG releases, I stopped renting others from them.

Only available on DVD, but well-worth watching, would be all the other Attenborough documentaries:

Blue Planet
Life of Mammals
Life in the Undergrowth
Life of Plants

I also enjoyed Life of Birds, but the PQ wasn't as good as the other 4 listed above. All of them are amazing programs. BBC has released many of those in gift sets, so you may want to look into picking one of those up to save some money.

I've also enjoyed the "Discovery Atlas" series (DVD/BD), though this is about countries and people, not about wildlife. There was a "complete" set released last year by Image, but these include cut-down episodes for a number of the countries (many were originally 2 hours). The original 4 single-disc releases contain the full episodes.

Life is the one I'd suggest. Been on sale at Costco for a while now.

Might also try Disney's Earth or Home.
