I'm trying to remember how the prices of DVD burners fell between 2000 and now. To the best of my recollection, burners were $500+ in 2000 but by mid-2002 were about $200. And of course, today they're $40. But my memory is a bit fuzzy.
My First General Media DVD-R recorder (Pioneer) ran me just under $1000... (got it at Dealer Cost). I'd guess next xmas we should be seeing cheap burners. As more and more media suppliers hit the market (Just saw FUJI product)... price will drop on Media.
I'm sure media prices will fall in line with hardware. Like all things more manufactures, better manufacturing will drive it down. Pretty soon you'll see knock-offs and cheap imports flooding the market.
You're trying to say that a 25Gb blu-ray disk is $25? And a DVD-R is only $0.25?
That pretty much says it all. Stack of 100 DVD-Rs for $25? Quite common. DL DVD-Rs? Nowhere near that cheap. BR or HD-DVD? Take out a bank loan. Recorders? DL DVD are going for about $40. I'll buy a dual format BR/HD-DVD recorder when they hit $50 and media hits $0.50.
