possible router problems

so I've been having a lot of problems with torrents lately,
terrible uploads and downloads on private sites

I just noticed my router is blocking a lot of udp and tcp connections on the same port I have set for my torrent application,

is that normal, or is it my problem,

I have a dlink dgl-4500 router,

any help would be great, getting very frustrated

you need to configure you router for port fowarding.

Or even better, use DMZ with this config you router will no longer be a hardware firewall, so you will have to use a software firewall ( like the one provided with windows 7) but every port will be open.

Enable UPnP in the router and in your torrent client, and the client will then be able to open the ports it needs to automatically.
